20th Anniversary DVD Prime voice chip
The chip, as we all can attest, sounds nothing like Peter Cullen.
However, it is advertised to play "voices and clips from the 1986 Transformers movie".
Can we be certain that another voice actor was used to re-record the lines, or is the voice really Peter Cullen's from the film scaled down to the point where it no longer sounds like him?
A low-fidelity recording on a tinny speaker could easily render the voice unrecognizable, given Cullen's bass tones.

Hasbro said something about not wanting to mess with Mr. Cullen's chances for being in the movie by having him do the voices for that figure.
I have no idea how that works, btw.

Ya know. You could probably remove the one from the Voice Changer Helmet and put it in that base. It wouldn't surprise me if they were the same damn thing, just hooked up to different size speakers.

I heard that there were two versions. One said something like you said, "...the voice of OP from the '80's cartoon..." i.e. Peter Cullen.
The other said, "The voice of OP..." Meaning, it's anybodies voice talking like OP.
I don't know, the only Masterpiece I have is the 20th ann. OP. The only voice for that is is in my head!8-}

You're thinking of the Voice changer helmet. That has two different versions. Movie edition MP Prime only has the janitor doing the lines.

The chip in DVD Prime and the Helmet aren't the same!
I tried the Helmet out, and it says (In Cullen voice) "Megatron is within my sights"
Along with a few other things but the voice sounds a littel older then from the 8o's so all lines on it are from the Movie ore taped for it.

I don't mean that the recordings are the same. I mean that it's probably the same exact chip in both, just with different recordings.

It's not Cullen, but its pretty close IMO. I like it. I don't like the alternative voice on the movie helmet though -- something is lacking.
