The last three years were spent in Asia, all for work as well, Cary! And yeah, I always brought a handheld with me.

I'll never forget that first trip to China like 8 years ago -- the air was thick with smog (and tasted even worse - until you got acclimated, which is also scary), children were begging on the streets, and everyone chain-smoked everywhere....but I brought my DS, played through Infinite Space (Sega!), and jammed to Muse's albums Black Holes & Revelations and The Resistance -- it made me a little less homesick.

: The Final Frontier

Will, if you don't love Devil Survivor, I'll take all the blame! It takes Shin Megami Tensei (SMT!) and makes into into an SRPG, like Final Fantasy Tactics -- but with demons & deities you summon and fuse.

FE = Fire Emblem! I love JRPGs, but especially enjoy SRPGs (tactical RPGs)....but gave WRPGs a chance with the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. Loved those two games for hundreds of hours!

I enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid games (but have yet to play V), as well as both Metal Gear AC!Ds on PSP.

I was joking about HD, but word up on 4k being overrated :lol:

When it comes to old games, I don't mind the ugly graphics, its the antiquated gameplay mechanics that drive me crazy. Recently tried to play FFVII, stopped pretty quick (glad there is a remake coming).

I still haven't checked out the SMT series, but they seem interesting. Are they related to the Persona series in any way? I'm working on the slowest playthrough ever of P4G on Vita :BANG_HEAD:

Oh shiny keeps getting me. If you were to recommend just one SMT game on the 3DS, which would it be?

Infinite Space? Looks interesting... like a space battle simulator? I'll keep an eye out for a used copy next time I hunt the game stores.

I tinkered around with MG Ac!d a bit on the PSP. If you like turn based games, that would be right up your ally.

I cut my teef on JRPs of yore, but have been wooed by WRPGs for the last few years decades. Currently I'm playing on the most western of RPGs on the PS4, Divinity Original Sin: EE. It's slow plodding and thick with menus and play options. Combat is very open ended but turned based using AP points for all actions. It's a nice change of pace, but I have to be in the right mind set to play it.

Hey Cary - SMT was where Persona's mythology and gameplay themes originated! The biggest difference is the simple fact that Persona has a primarily human party - in SMT, it's one dude and his summoned demon crew only. SMT also tends to be more difficult as well. There's also multiple endings depending on the choices you make...

: Master of Monsters

The Devil Survivor games are in the SMT family as well: demons, gods, and armageddon - except with grid-based tactical movements to complement the turn-based combat. They're my favorite, but for more traditional SMT, I'd say Strange Journey -- the only way it strays from the formula is that it's not set in Japan! My favorite is SMT III: Nocturne on PS2.

Infinite Space is a space opera & ship collection/sim -- not the most complicated in gameplay, but definitely in story.

I've been curious about Divinity, but the last WRPG I played was Witcher 3. It was the first reason I had to get a PS4, honestly.

I took pics of Primal in jet (?) mode last night....and can't believe this was his main alt mode. But flying would be cool.

It was definitely his main alt mode, thats what you see him turn into in the opening credits:

The reason you see him so much in that alt mode is because both he and Megatron would have these aerial battles since Megatron was a Dragon.

They did that as well in the second season where both had flight capabilities in their alt modes.

He turned into a gorilla twice and only once did we actually see him become a gorilla, this is the time:

There are n clips or even screencaps of him in car mode though. I think it happened once.

And by the way, when you get quainted with this show, continue with Beast Machines, it has some really cool world building that ties in with G1 big time:

I don't mess around on pinterest much anymore (never really did). It's pretty much a source of finding wallpapers for my phone :lol:

And man, we have to talk about devil survivor. its really early in the game so I am sure it gets better later but right now its quite a drag and I dont really see much of strategy involved.

Hey Will - once you unlock the features of the Summoning app (should be early on - you can buy demons via auction, fuse, etc.) that's when the game reveals itself. Even moreso once you get more characters in your party (humans). I seem to recall a fair amount of world building and setup at the beginning but if you can, press on a bit more (like 11:00:00 in-game?) - where are you at in the story?

If it's a challenge you're looking for, I definitely encourage you to continue!

I got the auctions and bought some demons. The free battle just keeps being there though. Do I just keep at it to build up my demons' strengths or should I move on with the story?

Move on, Will! Only grind if there are skills you wanna learn on the rando encounters available or hit a brick wall.

You will constantly be progressing, fusing/evolving new demons -- there's really no point to grind a demon up unless it's about to unlock a new skill - or just buy a demon with the desired skill(s).

Levels are important, but secondary to the skill-sets. You'll also want to decide on your personal character's skills -- I went with mage-nuke.
