Good for you, I didn't. So, I want this.

If anyone wants to sell me a mint in box, G1 Devastator for $29.74 (plus IL state tax), I'll shut up about this repaint, and won't give Hasbro my money.

Just got my Classics Devastator at the Wal Mart here in Roswell, Ga. They had the pallets out on the floor and there were at least 8 cases of them. I snagged a case, openend it up and got one. I wasn't originally planning on getting him, but I don't have the energon version and I like these colors so...There are 4 per case so they have at least 32. However they may not put hem out right away as is usually the case.

I don't know if I'll be getting him. I already bought Megatron, who I find pretty ugly, only to complete the series and am having a tough time trying to justify this purchase. I didn't buy the Legends Class of Classics or the minicons becuase I didn't feel like they are actual Classics. This is just an Energon repaint so it doesn't really qualify as a classic to me.

I have the Energon versions and now this store-exclusive version.

The exclusive version is a mixed bag, but there is definate good along with the bad. The black and purple repaints really shine. Combiners or not, these two could mix into any line from Armada to Classics and still rock.

The bad? well, the main combiner portion is barely even a repaint. There are slight differences, but not enough to drop $30 bucks on if you're in college eating ramen.

Do you know what I remember best about my G1 Devestator gift pack as a child? Fond memory here...Hook, snapped in half while coming out of the package. Not that it mattered much. It seems Devestator was meant to fall apart (I'm sure there has been more than one Transformers fan who only upon reaching his [or her?] 18th birthday finally got the smarts to keep ole' Dev together). But I digress.

Are the Energon combiners perfect? Hell no. After all, they aren't Jesus (though with the trinity thing, he is kind of a gesalt..?). In fact, Superior is pretty poopy. However, all of his limbs rock out hard. Both Bruticus and E Devestator (and all their parts) are fine transformers as well.

So, I don't actually have to defend them. They stand all by themselves. Which in the end, is a marked improvement over the old G1 Devestator. And don't you try and tell me that a loosy-goosie Scrapper didn't mean doom for Dev.

Well said. I love my G1 Devastator, but he falls apart if I even look at him wrong. I think this repaint is a nice homage to the original. Yes, I would've liked new molds, but being this is a filler line I didn't expect it. Hell, I didn't expect any combiners at all, but I'm happy with what we got.

On that note, still can't find the damned thing. I went to Walmart earlier lookin', but found Classic Grimlock instead. Yay me. :grin:

I like E-Devastator, and since I just ordered this Classics one on line, I'll have both. At first I thought I'd pass on him, but I do love those colors. So, count my vote as pro-Classics Devastator.

By the by shortround, I happen to really enjoy 70s horror movies.

I have G1 Predaking and a tiny G1 Dev' KO and I'm not a fan of this repeated limb figures idea so I don't need this one.
If it had unique limb figures I might have considered it.

Hasbro - indeed ALL toy manufacturers - have to pay a lot of money for new moulds. Since year dot in the action figure universe, repaints/remoulds have been a cheap way of getting more product out to the marketplace and creating revenue to make new moulds. It happens with Star Wars (Kenner were tight enough to reuse a lot of their Ewok playsets in their Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves line!), happens with all the superhero lines (neon-pink Batman anyone?), the He-Man figures (Faker being a classic example) and it happens with Transformers.
Do you have to like it? Nah. Accept it? Well, it ain't going away...

Perhaps its hard to think of our childhood Transformers (and other toy lines from that era) as business/commercial products, but that's what they are. No Hasbro exec really sat around saying "Hmm. Starscream's a great character. But you know what we need? Five more jets with just as interesting personalities and abilities to join him so fans will love these new characters!"
More likely he said: "We've paid a lot to import these moulds from Takara, so reuse the good ones as much as you possibly can! Here, I'll help - pass the blue paint please."

Of course, if that's what they started life as, then they BECAME more. When I think of Inferno or Grapple, for example, I think of two different characters. That's kudos for the comic/cartoon writers, and my six year old imagination.
But if it was OK then, I see no reason it can't be OK now...

i saw him tonight $30ish, and he looks more impressive in person, but i am still not interested enuff to actually get him..but i DO have a question:

can you combine the limbs in any order? like the crane-hook truck can be an ARM or LEG (pic is just leg)...and can anyone post recombination pics, if so??

It does not matter how you attach the limbs, they're not like designated arms or legs. I think E-Devestator looks cool with the two cranes as his arms, but that's just me.

I just got him from walmart.com yesterday. I think he is cool. I did not get the energon version,so I dig this one. I know 5 bots 3 molds sucks a little. Besides that he rocks. I like the articulation on him. Better than I remember on G1 Dev. Beside my kids think he is great!! Seeing there excitement reminds me of when I was a kid. And I think that is why we collect these anyway, to remind us of when we were kids.

found cases of dev in the back room of my walmart i grabed one but the connector to th black bulldozer wont fully connect or pops out randomly.... any one else have this problem????...... i might switch mine when they get put out on the floor..... but i love devs alot..... the directions for combining him suck for the torso

its just a tight fit you have to squeze the top together and get the top part of the claw in first and then you can move the peg into the bottom hole.

I had trouble at first but found that to work. Posing him is a little tricky but I like the set so far. Going to pick up another for my son he liked Devastator in the cartoon and this is a bit more durable than the originals or the KOs of them.

I just took a second look yesterday, and was very disappointed in it: other than the colors, the arms/legs are duplicates. there are only 3 unique vehicles in the 5 vehicle set. to me, that is just cheap and lazy. but that is only my opinion. i just can't understand why they didn't make all 5 vehicles different.
