So that's where that came from! I read Iron Man and I couldn't figure out why he was 'seeing' Cap - was it a halucination? Alcohol? Spell? An artistic way of showing Tony's inner torment? I considered all these ideas but just couldn't find confirmation for any of them. Nice to have that cleared up - thanks!

Is anyone else reading Mighty Avenger's? I was reading New Avengers but the new art combined with a lack of IM switched me over to Mighty...

Picked up the final issue of Y: The Last Man today. I was going to save it for the end of this week's pile but I just couldn't wait to read it. Holy crap, what a fantastic ending! It was totally unexpected in every way but it just fit perfectly. I'm going to miss this series tremendously. I think the thing I loved most about it was being totally surprised with nearly every issue. I think I'm going to be hard pressed to find a monthly title to fill in the enormous gap this now creates.

I just realized that I quote Supreme Convoy the entire time on here. *l*

Supreme Convoy wrote::BOT: Obviously we've talked about Captain America's death in #25, but elsewhere in the Marvel Universe...

Actually, as I am sure you are all aware of but it bears repeating anyways, Captain America is alive again.... more or less. Never was a Bucky fan.

Supreme Convoy wrote:My top recommendation recently is Freddy vs Jason vs Ash #1! It's based on a New Line script that was not produced and takes place after the events of Freddy vs Jason. So far, I'm loving it. It's just setting up the insane brawl that continue for the next 5 issues.

I love crossovers, and this reeks of awesomeness. I'm gonna have to pick these up.... when I have money. :/

Supreme Convoy wrote:For those who aren't aware of it... after Civil War, Tony Stark has set up a program called The 50 State Initiative where super-powered people must register and go through training to use their powers under their Avengers-approved instructor. Those deemed qualified can move up to their state's Initiative team. (So California, Iowa, etc have their own Avengers team).

Every state has their own Avengers team? Yikes, I can see problems with this in the future of the Marvel-universe.

On a side note, has anyone read the Batman series by Frank Miller? I'm all for Frank Miller's sadistic world and a dark version of Batman, but I wonder if Frank Miller is too "dark" for the Dark Knight.

"I'm the goddamn Batman!" Yeah, I bet you are.

:BOT: Ah, it's a shame I lost all the reviews I did... oh, well. Onward & upwards!

If you checked major new sites like CNN, they spoiled Action Comics #870. Then again, Geoff Johns has been dropping huge hints and the cover doesn't exactly keep a surprise.

This issue is the conclusion to the Brainiac arc. Apparently, all the Brainiacs that Superman has faced were all working for the "original" Brainiac. Think worker bees and one queen (hell, this version of Brainiac reminds me of HG Giger's work on Aliens!).

The finale boils down to the moment where Superman defeats Brainiac and rescues the Bottled City of Kandor. Superman is able to restore Kandor to its full size but Brainiac launched one last attack... at the Kent Home! The book ends with heartbreaking pages where Clark looks truly happy he has saved Kryptonians but cannot save Pa Kent.

Wow, Geoff and Gary Frank really hit a home run. Though my favorite panel is Superman saying, "It's okay to be scared." Gary's rendition seems to evoke Christopher Reeve but that panel looks eerily like Christopher and could've been a line from the Donner movie. :CON:

:BOT: I realized I haven't posted about Secret Invasion #8 and Dark Reign!

#8 may not be the all out battle that #7 was but it was still a solid read. But it leaves the Marvel Universe in the hands of Norman Osborn! After the death of the Wasp, the heroes are about to take down Queen Veranke but Norman gets the kill on national TV. This makes Norman the hero of the day... despite being the Green Goblin.

Since Tony promised he'd protect the world, people blame him for the invasion and the world can't trust SHIELD. Stark is ousted and Norman is now in charge of SHIELD (now called HAMMER). The first thing Norman after moving into the Avengers Tower? Assembling his own Illuminati with Dr. Droom, Emma Frost (isn't she a good guy?), Loki, The Hood and Sub-Mariner. This can't be good...

And the real heartbreaker? Skrull Jarvis has kidnapped Luke Cage & Jessica Jones' baby. Even with the help of the latest roster of New Avengers, they're out of leads forcing Luke to go to Norman for help.

I'm really excited for this new direction for the Marvel Universe. For a year, it was heroes against heroes. Now all the heroes are worried. :CON:

Emma's still on the side of good. Osborn basically guaranteed protection for mutants under his regime, essentially making her an offer she couldn't refuse.

The ending to Ultimatum #2 was a huge shock to me. No super powers, no huge long winded battles, just a simple ordinary human killing. And completely unexpected.

:BOT: I would like to check out Ultimatum at some point... but Marvel has been putting out their "dead pool" ads that spoil some of the deaths.

Which kinda reminds me of DC's Final Crisis ads where they ask "Where were you when ___."

*Sigh* I guess that's what happens when I put off reading stuff.

In other news, today I received my box of Alias comics I won from Ebay. I can't wait to read this Bendis/Gaydos goodness. :CON:

:BOT: Ah, I knew I was forgetting a small detail. Alias #1-28 only cost me $30 including shipping! It was the cheaper alternative compared to finding the Omnibus which fetches for almost double it's original price.

Then again... I'm thinking about sending the Alias comics (among others) in for a custom hardcover slipcase. So that might cost a pretty penny. :CON:

:BOT: So we finally have Final Crisis #6... and Batman has died.

Huh?

We knew going in that Grant Morrison's Batman RIP arc somehow ties into Final Crisis but it has never really made sense to me. When do these events take place?

By the end of Batman RIP, Batman looks like he may have died in a helicopter explosion. Though the Morrison's two issue epilogue actually takes place during Final Crisis with Bruce alive and well at the time.

I'm sure in a few months this will make sense.... oy. :CON:

After all that talk about the Batman dying a metaphysical death in Batman RIP, he actually kicks the bucket in Final Crisis.

:BOT: A pretty good analysis/theory on Batman RIP and Final Crisis.

And I received these books this week...

-Daredevil/Elektra: Love & War hardcover
-The Pulse #1-14
-Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom: Triumph & Torment
-New X-Men Omnibus

Lots of stuff to read! :CON:

Hi Supreme Convoy!

Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom: Triumph & Torment: This one has Mignola art right? Did this come in hardcover?

New X-Men Omnibus: How much did this set you back? This one has been out of print for 2 years now I think.

:BOT: Yep, Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom is the one with Mignola art. I know there was a hardcover one from the 80s but I opted for the paperback version since it was cheaper.

As for the New X-Men omnibus, it cost me $120 for a decent shaped copy.

I've been picking up Absolutes and Omnibus (Omnibi?) that I missed out on. Sometimes I'll get them at a steal... other times, I have to pay a premium.

I have my eye on Absolute New Frontier and that's a pricey purchase :( :CON:

:BOT: Of the ones I own...

-GI Joe/Transformers. Lacks the oversized format and extras, but it's just cool to have all of Devil's Due's crossovers with these two properties in one book!
-JLA/Avengers hardcover. Unofficially an Absolute but it's in the same size. It includes original pencil pages from the cancelled crossover in the 80s. Plus George Perez's art really pops in this oversized scale.
-Absolute Watchmen. I have the paperback already but original colorist John Higgins did a stellar job on re-coloring. And some meaty extras that have been out of print for 20 years.
-The Complete Invincible Library Volume 1.

Plus, I won it in a raffle at a Robert Kirkman signing!
Image

I've read about 20 issues of Morrison's New X-Men, pretty much the beginning and end. But now I have the entire story! It's going to be great to read it.

Of the ones I'm not quite happy with...

-Voltron. Devil's Due collected their first Voltron series including the 12th issue that never released. But it's filled with errorssuch as mispellings, pages out of order, pages being cut off.
-World's Greatest Heroes. Good stories but it's a bit disappointing that DC scaled down those Paul Dini/Alex Ross treasury comics for this hardcover. Then again, I suppose it was to keep the book at a reasonable price. It also has missing words/lines from the original treasury comics. :CON:

That signed Invincible hardcover is sweet!

Have tried the Hellboy Library editions? The oversized format does it justice.
I'm really hoping for an Absolute or Omnibus of Morrison's Seven Soldiers.
The only DC Absolute I have at the moment is the Crisis On Infinite Earths and you can't go wrong with the extras. Its two volumes and the second is a guide books with memos and sketches. It also has an index of all the Crisis tie-ins.

And I bought his newest book Armageddon Now.
