Heheh...hehe...HAHAHAHAAAAA!!

That's just, not true. That's like saying no one played games before 1994.
Video games were mainstream LONG before the PS1. You know how popular Pong was in bars?

I remember my grandparents had Pong when I was very young, it was amazing.

I'm just happy to see the N64 portrayed in a positive light. For all it's faults, that system kicked ass.

I was a little surprised that the Dreamcast got #10. I was hoping a bit higher, like 7 or something. The system was awesome.
Other than that, I somewhat agree with the list.
Although I think Virtual Boy should have been #1.

Sure, every nerdy kid played games before PS1. PS1 dragged in the people who would've never have touched games before though. Peoples mothers started plying. Peoples grandmothers started playing. It was no longer nerdy. PS1 changed everything.

Thats funny, my mom kicked ass at Dr.Mario back when I first got the NES. So yeah, it wasn't just the PS1. The PS1 just turned on the spotlight, the Atari and NES and such got it there.

Oh. I didn't realise that your mom represented a large chunk of the population so I take that back.Senor Hugo wrote:slycherrychunks wrote:Fail.Shadowman wrote:MercilessOne wrote:PlayStation = the reason WHY video games are main-stream. NOT the SNES, NOT the Dreamcast.

EDIT: Question. Was she playing Dr. Mario on your console, or did she have her own?

I don't know if I agree with the their listed. But I honestly think the genesis should have been higher.
I also thought Atari should have been higher, without Atari there wouldn't be anything, its like g1, no g1 no transformers.
Some of those worst systems i've never even heard of.

You know, the NES was like the family console. Granted I completely took it over in later years.
But what I meant from my post, was that seeing parents play either the NES, or Genesis wasn't as uncommon as it's made out to be. Like I said before, the PS1 turned on the spotlight, the other systems hauled and put the spotlight in place.

I think the N64 should not have been on the list. I agree with the top 3, but the order could be argued. I think the Xbox systems should have been on the list as well. Cmon Halo. Xbox Live. The first serious American system since Atari.

In fact, the PS1 is nothing more than a result of a temper tantrum. "Wah! We tried to take credit for every game Nintendo wanted to put on us! We'll make out own console, with blackjack, and hookers!"
PS1 might've had good games, but how many weren't on other consoles?
Symphony of the Night was also on Sega Saturn, Final Fantasy VII and VIII were on PC, so was Metal Gear Solid...that's about it.
The only two games I ever really cared about were Einhander (Which I never got to play other than a demo) and Ape Escape. (I don't know why)
What's really funny is that Super Mario Bros 1 is still the highest selling game of all time.

Wasn't it more like "Wah, Nintendo won't lets us do a CD based console so We'll do our own, with blackjack, and hookers! In fact, forget the console!"Shadowman wrote:In fact, the PS1 is nothing more than a result of a temper tantrum. "Wah! We tried to take credit for every game Nintendo wanted to put on us! PS1 may very well have been shat out from the rectum of Lord Satan himself - but it's still responsible for mainstream gaming.
R-Type Delta, Home versions of Strider 2, Street Fighter EX (first game only, rest sucked) and a bunch of dance-mat games, Vib Ribbon, Parrapa series (might not be awesome but had mainstream appeal) Yoyo's Puzzle Park. Gradius Gaiden only recently got ported to the PSP, but was exclusive for almost 10 years. That's just off the top of my head.PS1 might've had good games, but how many weren't on other consoles?

Depending on which source you believe. Also, depending on which source you believe, PS1 and PS2 both sold almost twice as many million units as the Nes.What's really funny is that Super Mario Bros 1 is still the highest selling game of all time.
So in a way, yes - Super Mario Bros 1 being the highest selling game of all time really is funny - in that it has no bearing on this dicussion.

Super mario Bros came free with the nes. of course there are more copies than any other game. I believe Halo 2 holds the current title though. With Halo 3 about to knock it off.

The genesis should've been higher. That thing was out for a long time. So should the PS2. The PS2 is what made gaming "main stream". If im not mistaken the PS2 is the best selling home console of all time. Dont quote me on that im not 100% sure. It wasnt until the PS2 came out that we gamers werent being called "geeks" and "nerds" any more. The PS1 did help but the PS2 is what made gaming popular.

That's bullcrap. My mom BOUGHT HER OWN NES. She rabidly played the original Final Fantasy, Zelda, and spent countless dollars on help lines. Then she got the SNES and bought Final Fantasy III the day it came out, etc. etc. Now that I have a DS, she has my GBA and has bought, beaten, and traded all of the GBA Zelda and Final Fantasy games, and Oracle of Ages.
The PS1 didn't start it, the NES did. Hell, maybe the Atari 2600 did.

You & your mom are not representatives of the entire world, though. When the Atari 2600 releases, not every family owned one. You were lucky if a friend or 2 in your neighborhood had one. The same holds for the NES, except that maybe 3 or 4 people in the neighborhood might've had one. It wasn't until the PS1, and especially the PS2 that everybody you knew & possibly their families owned the consoles.
