Re: Don Murphy Hints at Another Transformers Trilogy
You could make Transformers 4 with new villains and still paying homage to the older cartoons or comics.
I could see them even adding in Galvatron without having it involve Megatron turning into Galvatron. Have Galvatron be a separate Decepticon himself and lead Scourge and Cyclonous to Earth to attack the Autobots.

Sounds great to me. A new director and lead human would give it nice new fresh appeal. I'm all for a story similar to the 86 movie, or a new story altogether; I would prefer most of the movie to occur on Cybertron or anywhere besides Earth. Earth is old news...

I'd ask how you reboot it without using the same characters, including those who have been killed off in the movies. Prime was brought back from the dead. The others could be too. Anyone who didn't like the movies won't slow down the juggernaut of spending on movie tickets that has happened for all three movies and those movie tickets weren't all bought by fan boys (and fan girls).

You can use the same characters. Each cartoon is a reboot and many of the characters return. Batman, James Bond and Superman have been rebooted countless times in movie format as well. If you have any strands of creativity in you, you can make it work.
Now with that said, I don't see why newer characters can't be filtered in. It'd be nice to see the Dinobots and the other Decepticon Seekers, etc. Bulkhead in a new-er character all the kids love, so he could get added in too.
And as it is, the 3rd movie was a stand alone film. It had virtually nothing to do with the last two, so making a new one that had nothing do do with any of them is not going to be stretching it very far in comparison.

You make a great point there. It seemed to me that DOTM had nothing to do with the other two movies. It could definitely work with the right writer and director. And we can all agree on the fact that Hasbro (as well as Takara and others) won't to keep reaping the cash reward on the the figures. I've been looking at all of the different classes (Leader, Voyager, Deluxe, Ultimate, etc.) and thought that was really the point of it all anyway. They'd be crazy not to try to find a way to keep us buying the figures. Especially guys like me who've recently gotten back into collecting them.

Re: Don Murphy Hints at Another Transformers Trilogy
They certainly need to give TF a rest like Batman. And if anything let dedicated fans, comic book writers, and GOOD directors (like me) re-boot it. I'm tired of seeing awesome robots that we all know and love for only 10 % of the film. Seriously make sure people like Don Murphy, Michael Bay, and the Orci/ Kurtzmen lovers have NOTHING to do with future Transformers film projects. **** I'll write and direct future Transformers projects and you will be as satisfied as you will be when you watched Dark Knight versus Batman Returns.

I think it'd be different to have Galvatron as the son of Megatron, obviously wants revenge against Prime. The attack could be seen as subtle and there could be very few Decepticons in this time.
Anyways, I'm for the Movies taking a bit of a rest. They're my favorite of all the TransFormers, but I don't think a second trilogy would be all that good.

Re: Don Murphy Hints at Another Transformers Trilogy
Another trilogy in the same movieverse. Okay...
That could work, but there will be another Bumblebee. And the main villain should always be Megatron. And he's dead, like really really dead.
I think Bumblebee will be the second main robot character besides Optimus Prime. And I hardly think they will completely restyle the two.
There will be humans, and all you people who are saying: "Make it only about robots, on cybertron." That's just silly, Transformers is and has always been about alien robots & humans. Watch G1 again, c'mon people. For a mainstream live action high budget blockbuster it needs real people in it (for some reason).
And how the hell is it going to be played on Cybertron, I thought the planet got "red-mattered" in the last part of DOTM.
I'm not saying I won't like a non-human Transformers movie, but make it an animated movie like Robotech Shadow Chronicles. A high budget dvd movie or something.
Anywho, I hope they drop Bumblebee completely (he will be to big of a character again), keep Prime because he's the iconic chracter. Optimus has a lot more character and history told in the movies. Bumblebee is the exact same from scene 1 to the final scene. As well as the human characters Lennox/Epps, they do the same thing every movie, it's going to be hard to watch that another 3 movies.
They should ditch all Transformer characters now that I think about it.
If they continue, they have to make up some good story plots and characters because the whole robots in disguise thing is worn out after 3 movies. The stealth force was a welcome factor.
Hm, I'm always contradicting myself in posts

I love the 86 movie, i really really do, but i do get a bit tired of the idea of unicron making megs into Galvatron, its been done, its past (great but past).
As for leaders of the decepticons, someone like Straxus would be funky, or off the top of my head, whats wrong with 2 different decepticon factions warring for supremecy with the autobots trying to hold them both off? Would be a way to make it differnet possibly. Or even possibly a matrix style trilogy, where they literally follow on directly from each other, with maybe 2 coming out 6-12 after each other.
I love G1, but i love Transformers more, G1 will always be my favourite, but that doesnt make the others bad, i really love these movies, they could be better but if you consider the quality of action films these days, they are really very good.

Naaa...WAY to contrived. There are a ton of Decepticons still on Earth after that last battle, scattered across the planet. It would be quite easy to find the new leader amongst those 'Cons or even to have a Galvatron or a Jhiaxus or even a Scorponok show up on Earth by tracing the energy waves of the space bridge. And personally I enjoy the interaction between the bots and the humans. Remember the first movie poster? "Their War. Our World." That's where it all started. The storylines of the original G1 cartoon ALL revolved around the interaction between the Cybertronians and the results of their presence on Earth. Humans had huge parts in every episode. Huge and corny. And the very narrow belief of what some TFans think of the presence of humans...how huge were they? Headmasters? Targemasters? Powermasters? It was such a huge part of the mythos and storyline that they built it into the toyline. Transformers can exist without humans in the story, but by adding that interaction and the very real consequences of having a war involving thousands of 30 foot tall robots on a planet packed full of 7 billion squishy little humans it makes the story potential better.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

This should be the fourth movie:
Thunderwing arrives from Cybertron. Since he's a scientist, he discover's Megatron's corpse, and tries to revive him. When that fails, he brings Megatron's and the rest of the Decepticons' remains to Unicron. Unicron reformats them, and from there we pretty much remake the animated movie from the 80s.

Anyone who wants a Transformers story without humans should play the War for Cybertron video game. That storyline apparently happened before the Autobots came to Earth in the Arc. That could be the first of three possible story lines but the fact that a "War for Cybertron" game already exists likely means that won't happen as a movie unless they do a "War for Cybertron 2 game and that would be pointless. I agree that a brake should happen from DOTM until anyone attempts a reboot. That worked quite well for "The Dark Knight". It gives the public time to forget all three previous movies and makes a fresh story line and fresh human characters a better proposition. I'd like to see Ultimate OP appear in one of those movies (unless I'm missing something and that was Ultimate OP in DOTM).

You would end up having to hope the property became useless and non profitable to the point where only some small indy company would grab the rights to it and make a movie based soley on Cybertron with no human element whatsoever and the effects would probably be meh at best.
.
Agree 100%. You have to have that human element otherwise these movies wouldn't make a fraction of what they do now at the box office. Let's face it - it's only the most hardcore TF fans who want a movie with just Transformers in it. Not only that but the cost of an entire movie with CGI characters in every scene would cost more to make than is realistically possible.
then how did Shrek, Toy Story, and Avatar do so well? the first 2 were all CGI, no humans (Shrek has CGI cartoons, not human) and Avatar, as was said before, most the focus was on the Na-Vi, not the humans, and they're looking at a sequal for that one.
So a whole or mostly CGI TF Movie, focusing on the transformers, I think it would do pretty well

What? Really?

The movies were fun. The figures were different. I wrap this whole movie thing into a nice little Transformers chapter and shelf it. Separately from the rest of my hobby. A lot of different stories and characters have appeared throughout the years. Very little of it recognizes previous story telling. WFC to G1('86 movie, Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory) to Beastwars (Beastwars 2 and Neo Beast Wars) to Beast Machines atleast kinda flowed. Only 25 years of shared story. These movies get their own, separate, little shelf for toys and significance.

I feel ya. I didn't start collecting until two years ago, but that's because I didn't have the money to do so until that point (meager allowance money morphed into needing to save up to buy books, food, gas and whatnot in college).
I actually wouldn't mind if a rebooted movie series had different character designs either (I have nothing against the current ones mind you). I'm sure Hasbro would appreciate it as well. As you said, the movies are to really there to sell the toys, just as the cartoons are. And the last 3 movies have pretty much had the same toy designs, minus a few tweaks (and adding mechtech this go around). New designs would allow Hasbro to make a new and unique toy line again, outside of just a label change. And we all know Hasbro has nothing against that. Haha. And I rather doubt they'd lose money on the CGI aspect because I remember Pixar saying whenever they do sequels they have to redo all the models because the software is always changing (radically in many cases).
They'd be able to sell toys regardless of a design change though, but a switch up could be nice and it'd definitely help get across that a reboot occurred on the visual end of things.
Lets hope, whatever Hasbro/Paramount does, they get a great crew to run the show. I'm kind of hoping the Spielberg rumors are true myself, but there are plenty of directors out there that know how to combine story and cinematography into something everyone from the action junkies to the story lovers can enjoy.

Oh, not a reboot then... F**k it, we're screwed.
Remember, the director and entire cast have moved on. This is a typically formula for a bad follow up, especially when they're considering it this soon. If nothing else, people will get tired of it and it will stop making money. It's hard to get by on nothing but special FX, if the story doesn't have any draw, which it doesn't, and it will only get worse if they bring in people who don't know what they're doing and tell them "Make a sequel to this."
Transfans have pretty eclectic tastes anyway. As long as it still has Optimus Prime and giant explosions, there's no reason not to have a reboot.
And it's bad Hollywood logic to think that any movie after the third in a series would make more or even as much money as the last. People were pumped for this because they thought it was going to be the grand finale. Adding to it will just make people lose interest and start wanting something new.

Perhaps my studies of human behavior have made me entertained by Sam's whiney, type A personality. I enjoyed all three movies. Hopefully whatever is done next happens after a decent break from it all. That gives Takara some years to come up with some version of Prime with Trailer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg or better yet, someone can merely start producing trailers for all of the prime figures that didn't come with them?

Re: Don Murphy Hints at Another Transformers Trilogy
In my opinion, the story could continue. The movie kind of ended in the middle of a battlefield and there are still a couple hundred rogue decepticons on Earth and Under ten autobots? If it was me, and if don murphy is reading this and wants me to write a screen play for it I will
, I would set it 30 years after the end of the dark of the moon. Do a recap segment to talk about the round up of the decepticons on earth, have scenes of infighting (because we all know the deceps would fight each other for power), and some deceps switching sides. Or going neutral enough that they aren't a threat anymore. Have a grown up version of Sam be the new leader of nest (John Statham plus war scars could work) Also you could make the new version of Sam darker to fit Statham better by adding in the recap that Carly was killed by decepticons. So Sam goes from 'kid growing up trying to save the world', to 'Decepticons took everything from me and I'm going to kill them all' badass. As for new characters I'd bring in a host of autobots as background and reference them in the recap and bit spots in the movie for possible use in later movies, but the main ones for me would have to be Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, Kup, Springer, Dinobots, Omega Supreme (because I would bring Devastator back and I like the idea of him fighting Omega like he did in All Hail Megatron), and any other big guns I missed. As for the decepticons...it'd be too early for Galvatron in the first movie. Canon says he needs to be related to megatron somehow so the deceps need to get his body back somehow. I'd bring in a decepticon army led by either Sixshot, or Overlord, or both. And I'd bring in Jhiaxus (as a scientist/strategist ala the IDW Universe) and He'd make a big deal of being able to bring all the dead deceps back to life which in the end of the movie we would find out is a power granted by unicron. Just my ten minute idea.
