Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

Fave, least-fave Mobile Suits, and why

Postby Duke of Luns » Wed May 09, 2007 1:18 pm

So, what's your favorite Mobile Suits from Gundam, and why? Also, what suits do you really dislike? This is based from anime's/games, not models, so keep that in mind.

Mine faves are:

The GP03 Debronium. It's a flying container of weapons. Has two giant pods of missles on it's "shoulders", an I-field that reflects beam weapons, multiple alternate weapons that can be switched on the fly, really long beam sabers, and a really long-barreled doom cannon. It's quite possibly the best way to take out an entire fleet of ships single-handedly. Ok, so it might not be the best in mobile suit combat, but it could get the job done.

Gundam RX-78 NT-1 Alex: I'm really not sure why, but it's probably cause it was the least used Gundam. Two fights and it lost to a rookie pilot in a Zaku. Yet because of that I just think it has so much potential, and thus is my other favorite Gundam. Also, I like the design of it in general.

GM's(and all decendents): Ah, the ever-lovable cannon-fodder suit. Blows up almost every time it appears on screen, and yet I really like the design of it.

Zaku's: The original Mono-eye'd enemy, what's not to like?

The Gaplant: I like the design, color scheme, and it transforms into a semi-realistic flying machine. Fast and manueverable, and was piloted by Yazan, who could actually go toe to toe with Kamille(unlike Jerid).

The ZuOOT: Quite possibly the worst mobile suit to ever appear on screen. Gets blown up within seconds, I don't think it ever got a kill, and was taken down by your average tank! Additionally, in the game "Never Ending Tomorrow" it's shown that the thing can't even hover high enough to go over a small hill in the desert! Why do I like it then? The design mostly, it does look pretty cool: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/seed/tfa-2.htm

Least Fave's:

Can't think of any at this moment.

So, your picks?

My favorites are the Strike (and variations of it),RX-79G and EZ-8,Astray Red, The Mk.II especially the Titans scheme,Hi-Nu, the Zeta c1, F91, and the EW Deathscythe Hell.

My least are: The Zaku I, the Crossbone (it's rediculous), and all the G Gundam suits except for Master, God, Dragon, and Spiegel. Oh yeah, and I really hate and I mean HATE the Acguy.

Favorite:
GAT-X105E+AQME-X09S Strike Noir

It has John Woo-style twin beam pistols. And see those beam blades? Their connected by a chain. They're Swordchucks!

Least Favorite:
Anything from G Gundam, with the exception of the Shining Gundam and Burning/God Gundam. Those two are bitchin'.

Maybe for comedic value. But if you're into serious mech design, an MS with a bull head for a torso, Sailor Moon Gundam, Mr. Face for a Crotch, and the Windmill Gundam really don't pull off the badassery the Strike Noir and Gaplant do.

Oh, and Gaplant IS one of my all-time favorites. in Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam, it was my mech of choice.

Also, Yazan is awesome.

The G-Gundams are cool! I really liked that interpretation of Gundam. It was good fun, but I do agree that most of the designs don't rank in as "great" or "cool". Still though, a lot of them are quite unique, and can't be found anywhere else in Gundam, like this one:

Image

Or the Jumping Gundam from the Manga:

Image

My favorites are the Maxter(cause it's the American Gundam, and well, I'm an American), and the Dragon Gundam, cause it really does look pretty cool. And while G-Gundam was fun and original, I don't think there should be another.

Favourites would have to be:

Gouf Custom from 08th team (love the shield mounted gatling gun).

Kampfer from War in the Pocket (the first standard-sized Zeon MS that actually looked like a mean killing machine rather than cannon fodder).

Sazabi from Char's Counterattack (it looks like a complete beast of a MS, and I love the 'covered-in-thrusters' look).

Full-Armour Hyaku-Shiki (from MS variations I presume, because of the Five Star Stories but with added arse kicking power vibe I get from it).

Ah, the age joke.

It's a little played out, don't you think? Given that I turn 18 next month, amongst other reasons.

One of my all time favorites: Image
Along with Freedom.

My least favorite is the Impulse. Not just because of the pilot. The whole transformation thing was pretty retarded. "Just wait a moment there guys, I still have to assemble my gundam before I can fight you guys"
Not to mention it looks so awefully generic. Only the blast impulse was rather good http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/ce ... blast.html but it was like what... used once or twice at most in the whole show? meh @ impulse

You're not 18 yet, so why not get'em in while there's still time!

Besides, you'll still have the mental age of a minor for several years to come, so why split hairs?

For you? No. You're Dutch. You have the frikken Red Light District.

In America, there are age limits to when you can buy porn. It varies from state to state, but here I think it's 18.

So although my dad would slaughter me for finding porn on the internet (The BEST place, no less), he would probably exp[ect me to go to the conviniece store down the street, and get a PlayBoy or a Penthouse for a dollar.

That's right, dirty magazines are only a buck here. Take THAT, countries that have banned porn!

Hmm, I do belive this is the first thread in the mecha forums that's been derailed. History has been made! But let's see if we can't get this train back on track:

I also really like the Gaia Gundam from Destiny. Not so much for the suit design itself, but because it transforms into a wolf/Bcue! And it actually looks like something! Don't get much cooler than that.

I've only seen about half the series though, been borrowing it off my friend, and he hasn't gotten a new volume for a couple months(will probably wait till he can get 2 or 3 at once). But so far it seems that Destiny has some of the least Gundam combat of any series. They went on at least a three episode stretch where the Gundam was never launched. It's kinda surprising for so early on in the series, specially when compared to SEED.

Oh, I like the Bolinoak Sammanh:

Image

The design looks cool, I like the color, and it has a big huge claw shield! It really does stink that it got so underused in the series, and it never got to pull out it's beam axe that was seen in Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam.

Thought up some least favorite suits:

The Gabaldy Beta:

Image

It's not that bad, but it's unspectacular, doesn't do much, and really is just there to be there I guess.

The O's another meh:

http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/z/pmx-003.jpg

It's big, bulky, has hidden hands, but they weren't really utilized at the end of Zeta. If it had been introduced a little sooner, I would have liked it better I think.

The Byalant, completely forgettable design, participated in very few battles, and once again, there for the sake of being there. It's pretty crappy in Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam as well.

Image

Finally, I'm not a big fan of the Gundam Mk. II. It never really came off to me as "It's a Gundam!!!!", because it never seemed to be better or more powerful than the enemy mobile suits.

That was the point of it - Char/Quattro actually comments on the fact it's just a slightly upgraded version of the RX-78-2. If the suit was considerably better, there would have been no need for the Zeta.

Then why did they bother developing it at all, much less three? There's some kind of "movable frame" tech thing. I don't delve too much into the tech much, so I'm not sure what the heck that's supposed to do. And they kept it around through ZZ Gundam(which I haven't seen). If it was obselete, why bother repairing it?

The Super Gundam upgrade was a decent idea I guess, but it cut it's close range capabilities to practicly nill.
