In the 1970s, Marvel Comics published five Giant Size-Avengers issues on a quarterly basis, with the fifth issue being a reprint of Avengers Annual #1. Those extra-large Avengers comics featured memorable and pivotal Avengers stories by fan favorite and comic book industry legends such as “Nuklo—The Invader That Time Forgot!” by Roy Thomas, Rich Buckler and Dan Adkins, “A Blast from the Past!” by Steve Englehart and Dave Cockrum, “…What Time Hath Put Assunder!” by Englehart, Thomas, Cockrum and Joe Giella, and “…Let All Men Bring Together!” by Englehart, Don Heck and John Tartag.
This December, the publisher will be presenting brand new Avengers tales by the likes of familiar creators as well as new-to-Marvel talent from the indie and webcomics scenes with the publication of Giant-Size Avengers Special #1.
In part one of a series of features on all things Giant-Size Avengers Special, Newsarama.com sat down with editor John Barber to discuss about the idea behind the extra-length special one-shot and take a peek at the talent involved.
But first, the solicitation for the issue:
