Looks like Hollywood ain't done tampering with our 80's childhood. I kinda see where they are coming from, but I wonder how the Joe fans are reacting to this.

Well that's crap. I think most people are aware of who and what G.I.Joe is. And Cobra would work well on screen if done right, these writers have absolutely no imagination and just want to capitalize on the name. Which still doesn't make sense because if no one outside the US wouldn't recognize G.I.Joe as we know it, why release it under the name of G.I.Joe at all?

If they did Cobra the way they did in in GI Joe: Reloaded I don't think many people would laugh at it. Focusing on international characters is okay with me - there were a lot of good ones like Big Ben, Outback, etc.
Mark Wahlberg would be a good Duke I think.

It also wouldn't be the first time that the US released a movie under one name and then the international version under another. I think the XXX sequel was done like that. Bad movie and all, but I'm sure they (Hollywood) called it something like "The Next Level"...
As for the Commander, he CAN be done correctly. Lord knows that we have had movies with far more silly goals or characters with similar goals in mind. Think of some of those older Bond movies.

Armand Assante would make the perfect Cobra Commander. He can pull off insane and diabolical easy as hell.
However, the crap they're pulling, this 'buddy army guy' flick. Yeah, it's going to suck, maybe.

I honestly don't even remember Joe that much and I think this sounds like crap. Wasn't Cobra essentially a terrorist group? Why is that so hard to transfer over to a movie? I don't see what the big problem is. And last time I checked a ninja really isn't that hard to implement either.
I call bullshit.

I am Australian and like G.I.Joe, so no one outside of the US would recognise is a weak argument, now America being a warlord country in the eyes of some countries is another thing, I gather that G.I.Joe would be ... touchy BECAUSE of COBRA being terrorists, still a touchy subject with the arab community who "Think it's funny the rest of America and their allies believe in terrorists" -True quote, this person thought it was funny we "Believed" in them, like they were like Peter Pan or something O_OLoki120 wrote:Well that's crap. I think they haven't looked at how to do Cobra properly. The problem is they tlak about the comics and old TV series where Cobra was laughable. Yes they were. They are portrayed in inept and Cobra Commander was more comical than anything and blamed everyone else but himself. Cobra should not be a terrorist organization. They need to be more part of something bigger, not Cobrala(I would never go there) but something more convincing like a secret New World Order group.
Here's my idea for a G.I. JOE Movie.
The main focus would be the rivalry of Snakeeyes and Stormshadow. Former comrades turned bitter enemies. The main heroine would be Scarlet. Duke would be in there as well, more or less the patriotic figure he was in the cartoon. Hawk would be a Lt. General and second-in-command of G.I. JOE until the end of the film. The organization would not be called GI JOE at first but in honor of it's leader who dies serving his country.
Cobra would not called Cobra officially. That's just what they'd call them because their logo has the Cobra symbol on there. The name Cobra would just catch on amongst the JOES to identify the enemy better. They wouldn't be so much a terrorist group but more a New World Order organization that has secretly been in planning for centuries.
Cobra Commander would be the mysteirous figurehead, appearing later in the film, he wouldn't be called Cobra Commander, his men would just call him "The Commander." His character would be dark, and ruthless. He wouldn't tolerate failure and would kill those who failed him. He'd be the kind of guy whose men would respect, yet fear him at the same time.
Earlier parts of the film would focus on Desto's organization allying with Cobra and the founding the gorup that would become GI JOE. A lot of Destro's allying with Cobra would involve the Baroness, the Commander's Second-in-command.
While I do like Zartan, I'd save him for a sequel. Of course finding a decent role for the dreadnoks would be a challenge since they are more or less just a gang of thugs under the payroll of Cobra who get a bunch of cool gadgets to use. They'd have to do seriosus tuff to get G.I. JOE's attention.
There would be members on each side that would die though not necessarily part of the main cast.

^So, the soldiars wouldn't run into battle screaming "Coooo-bbbrrraaa!!!!!!"? Come on, that was half the fun of G.I. Joe, big huge laser battles and lots of explosions. Well, in the show anyway. I know, they wouldn't put lasers and whatnot in the show. Wait, would it really be 80's G.I. Joe unless there were HISS tanks and other "liberal takes" on Military hardware?
Another vote to why Snake Eyes wouldn't be hard to do. A silent ninja's pops out of nowhere and kicks butt, how hard is that?
I agree with your other arguments, but is having the name "Cobra" really such a bad thing?

That sounds SO familiar.

I say that if no one can give the 80's cartoons the proper treatment they deserve, they should be left alone until it can be.

I'd hate to see how Thudnercats would end up. A Live action Thundercats would have so much potential but some idiot would proabbly ruin it within the first week. It seems the only franchise which's scource material is respected nowadays is TMNT.

So we're skipping "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" and going straight to "Dracula vs. Frankenstein."

You claim that you are 14.
And quite frankly I am getting tired of reports about your crappy attitude around here.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Crappy attitude? I'm only like that when someone feels the need to be rude to me. There wasn't anything wrong with my post in this thread. The Care Bear thing was a joke. My sister loves Care Bears and she found a clip on YouTube of Homer Simpson being attacked by one with other bear icons, which inspired that joke.

I am 14. Seriously. I didn't know about 9/11 until after school that day. Another teacher came in and whispered it to my teacher, Mrs. Luis, I think. I didn't hear a word of it until my dad told me. I went to Ousley Jr. High early this year until worrying gave me a stomach ulcer which made me throw up a little at a time. I was out of school since early September and the school set me up to do my school work in the nurse's office. They tried to force me into my classes with a trash can beside me to throw up in. My parents refused to let them and they pulled me out of school. I am currently trying to enroll in a homeschool program, but my dad and I are still waiting for the supplies. I am 14 year-old virgin who has an ulcer, in short, and you will have to take my word for it.

Hold on. Because I'm not like everyone else, I don't belong here? My attitude is fine UNTIL someone insults me. Honestly. I can make one lousy comment and I get a personal attack within 5 minutes. My first posts in every topic are on the topic's subject until someone decides to start a fight. Go back a page. This whole arguement started with a personal attack. The sarcastic remark of "How old are you?" began this crap. If people didn't feel the need to be jerks we would still be talking about GI Joe.
