Nope, no connection.
There are 4 stories, I believe. I don't recommend them. Decepticons are falling like leafs in them, while every human with an army knife can kill them; too one-sided.

Get yourself DW version, that is so very awesome. The Transformers are a real threat in them.

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

Not normally a fan of crossovers but I've really enjoyed the 4 series produced by Devil's Due. That said, the weakest was the second series. The others are great though.
I really liked their re-imagined Serpentor in the third series.
Also we've had a lot of war Within toys in recent years and the designs in the first series like Hiss Tank Optimus Prime and Stinger Sideswipe and Sunstreaker really deserve some toys too.
So yes, I would recommend them. They're as good as any other TF comic series in my opinion.

First off, get the DW Transformers And JI Joe series, which is set circa WWII. The art is very dark, and a little hard to follow as a result, but the mood created is absolutey increadible. And the plot is better IMO than any other TF JIJOE story ever. That said the DD series is very hit or miss. The first arc, was very entertaining, and a good idea. The second dragged on and was ended in a very rushed feeling (because of how it drags on and then suddenly raps up, but i think it was planned that way and the feeling of balance was just lost). it was rather forgetable. The third one is pretty good. it definately has its moments, but feels jarringly out of place with the others. And the fourth, well if you can get it cheap and i mean real cheap, its... entertaining. But the art is not very good, and the story isn't great. It has some awsome moments, but overall is a let down. The DD are very fan-boyish. If you can get a good deal on the Onmibus with all four, go for it. If not i'd say just get the first one.

They're releasing a hardbound edition of all four volumes in the near future, available for ~$30 on Amazon. If you want a brainrotting but reasonably fun comic, they're worthwhile. Volumes 1 and 3 have decent plotting, while 2 and 4 are just silly.
Like others in the thread, I advocate the Dreamwave Transformers/G.I. Joe comic. Probably the most compelling TF comic DW ever produced. The TPB is nigh-on impossible to find, but the individual issues don't run too much. Don't get the manga; it's black and white and takes way too much out of the superb artwork.
