One last note, molds wear out. Not sure if you are aware of this or not, it seemed like an odd concept to me when I first got back into collecting. I figured a mold would last forever, but it doesn't. The seeker mold you keep referencing for example has been used a lot. At some point they won't ne able to use it anymore. It appears some signs of mold wear have already started to manifest themselves in the Gentei seekers. Just a little food for thought before this shuts down.

Does that mean then that you didn't request Rated X to close the thread?

A site for free flowing ideas.........we have one opinion, we have another. Collecting is indeed an expensive hobby, no one forced us to it but it gives us a lot of gratification, I might even go biblical with the parable of the merchant and the pearl but I digress......
Buying something you really want costs a lot, we can verbalize our frustrations but still come back and buy the stuff so whether domestic or imported it all boils down to the availability of disposable income and the law of supply and demand and the standard of living in the origin of the import.
Me, I'm just grateful I can even re-live the lost years of my childhood by being able to purchase a lot of long ago forgotten molds from the series (I'm G-1 all the way but hey, nobody is perfect
) as many others here dig a particular era, it really is good to be a collector these days.......for a price that is

Thanks counterpunch. I had thought you wanted me to cease discussion. I wasx confused from an earlier post you made.
So molds wear out huh ??? Well I guess thats why we see re-makes of G1 figures come around so slowly. I guess they have to re-create the molds and get clearance for them. Maybe thats why we havent seen re-molds of the Stunticons yet. But from the pictures Ive seen of Bruticus repaints, one mold makes alot of figures. And when history calls for a classic mold to be re-made, you can bet the seekers will be a top choice both money-wise and by popular demand.
Im not sure what else to discuss but Ill hit all key points as they appear...
Thanks

You never knew molds wear out? They you should realise they can be either worn out beyond repair, or lost. In the first case, a reissue is next to impossible because restoring it is very expensive and hardly ever cost effective. The only two cases I've seen it done are with Jazz (mainly the face) and Beast Wars Cheetor (gut-gun), but both are very exceptional.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Some molds don't exist anymore, they have been lost, broken, or wore out. A figure can be reverse engineered to recreate a mold, but for some reason this doesn't seem to happen very often. It appears the latest incarnation of the Combaticons you referenced are indeed showing signs of the mold wearing out. Part not aligning properly, looseness, etc.

Mold degradation. One sure thing to notice especially with imports like Encore. Verrrrry notable is Bruticus.'nuff said. Even Blaster's/Broadcast's casettes haven't aged well (Rosanna,Flipside,Rewind and Eject) but suprisingly, Rumble and Frenzy are doing exceptionally well.
Heck, at least they're somewhat affordable as opposed to the ones in the secondary market.

The only re-issues I own are 25th anniversary Optimus Prime (Wal-Mart) Insecticons and Perceptor (Toys-R-Us) and Dirge (Toys-R-Us I think cause the box says Hasbro) I got him from a traveling collector. All the rest of my G1's are original. I have an original G1 Shrapnel and I swear the re-issue looks just as good if not better than the original. Is this a mold taken out the closet or a re-created mold does anybody know ???

Same mold. Molds are never recreated (only parts are), that would be impossible. Of course reissues look better than originals because toys age as well:
- Joints can become loose
- stickers can peel off and loose color
- chrome can flake
- plastic degrades, very slowly
- white plastic can even yellow (it happens with other colors too, most noticeably on blue)
