Judge blocks name for baby

Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

That was Nicolas Cage.

I want to name my son Edward, but spell it Ydwyrd. Yddy, Yd, and so on.

But since my future wife won't allow that, I'll probably name him something cool, like Vincent or something.

Or Shadowboy?

And French parents must choose from an approved list. The laws are designed to prevent teasing.

Ridiculous. China also does this.

We were visiting my parents this past weekend and I had heard about this. Turns out, 4real would not be such a bad name. There's a girl in my Mom's school district named, well, it's pronounced "Sha-theed", but that's not how it is spelled. :-(

Saw those idiots on the news, they want to call the next kids "4 Sure" and "4 Ever". I just finished explaining to Americans on another forum that said people must of been retarded or should be charged with child abuse.

The guys' a real estate agent, so maybe it's just a cruel publicity stunt.

Regardless, try growing up with a name like "Hancock" and see how nice kids can be. "4 Real" is just asking for trouble. :o

Strangely, the girl at school with the last name of "Cox" didn't get any problems.

My last name is Cox and I've never gotten any problems not even from the students that I teach. I've also found (from everyone asking if I' related to _____ Cox) that it is alot more common last name than what the general public believes.

Regarding the original article, I'm taking the middle ground. I feel the judge has no right to stop the parents from naming their kid, but I do hold to my belief that the parents themselves are morons. See? Everybody wins.

These paramounts to intelligence actually gave their poor little girl 25 names...all after boxing champions.

Well at least with your middle name, most papers you fill out don't require it. Still...I wouldn't find that very funny if my parents had done it. Soon as I was able my name would be changed.

That's not so odd. I remember reading about an African film star who's name was the surnames of all her tribal ancestors, meaning it was her first name, 20-or-so middle names, and then the current family name. Although I have to say that naming a child after boxes is a questionable source.

THe mother pronouced it "Le-MON-jel-O" and "Or-ON-jel-O."

I can't compete with that, but I heard of a Raiders player who's last name was Black. He named his daughter Silver Anne Black (silver and black, representing the team colors)

I'd just like to point out - While it was Luke.. I mean, Nicolas Cage who named his son Kal-El, Kevin Smith did still name his offspring after a DC Comics character:
Harley Quinn.

I'm callin my son Magnus.

My wife can name the girl, cos I'm not much good with girls' names :P

Steal it, and I'll break your virtual legs for you. I've always been very partial to this name.

I thought this was funny. My last name's Moffat, so he'd be nicknamed M&Ms!

But then, I'm changing to my mom's maiden name, so he wouldn't :(

I know a guy called Mike Hunt. Seriously, I **** you lot not, its the sort of thing you get on one of those dodgey Teen movies. And he liked to be called Mike not Micheal.

On a slightly somewhat related note, I did a stint of work experience in 4th form (about 14-15 years old) at a funeral home. (Seriously). Anyway, there was a 16 year old boy who was lying there. He'd hanged himself because his parents mispelt his name "Brain" instead of "Brian" on the birth cert, and he got hideiously bullied because of it!

Hopefully I got the spelling right... but you know what I mean, right?
