Just saw Bruno
It absolutely sucked. Was no where near as funny as Borat, in fact it was barely funny at all.

Just out of curiosity, did you go into Bruno expecting something similar to Borat?

Re: Just saw Bruno
Even though it is totally not the kind of movie I would normally go see, I have to admit to being slightly curious about it in a morbid "watching a train-wreck take place" sort of way. Actually hearing from someone who was somewhat enthused before going into it and then getting that kind of response, I'm guessing it was closer to a train-wreck than I figured. I hadn't planned on spending money on it so it doesn't really matter but is it too horrid to even mention?

Personally I found it rather entertaining, I just loved how those parents were willing to let their babies be photographed while:
being crucified,
experimenting with dangerous chemicals,
being dressed as a Nazi pushing a baby dressed as a dead Jew in a wheelbarrow
"So can your baby lose 5kilo wait till next week?"
"Sure no problem I see what I can do."
"Reverend Blow***!"
Or how he totally and utterly wreaked and shattered his South states fans by revealing the truth about "Strait Dane".
But I have to say I still like his AliG and Borat characters a lot more than Bruno.

I knew exactly what Bruno was having all the Ali G collections on DVD. Bruno from Ali G was way funnier than this. This movie actually seemed to try to follow the Borat recipe (even with some similar scenes where Bruno is lying out on the sidewalk in desperation, like Borat did where he set the chicken free), but it lacked coherency between segments, so it was just basically very quick spoofs (no where near as elaborate as on the TV show) with a high shock value. And they didn't work. Plus all the funniest parts are on the commercial.

That's what I was afraid of.
There's simply no way he could do a Borat-style movie with a new character. He knew he couldn't do Borat again but he should have known it wouldn't work with another character either.
DVD release it is then!

I don't care if the film is good or not, it has given me the line, "He looks like a dirty wizard or something..."

I saw it Saturday, and I thought it was funny. Funnier than Borat. I am not a Sacha Baron Cohen fan, never saw Ali G. I saw Borat on DVD, and except for a few good scenes and lines, it was dumb. This was a lot funnier. It was constantly funny, though it had some dumb scenes. And too may penis shots.
My favorites scene was earlier, when he was hyping his interview with Harrison Ford, and all he got was a "F**k off!" from Harrison. HILARIOUS. And he compared himself to Hitler, and called Mel Gibson "Der Fuhrer."

Both Borat and Bruno are movies that what I see from the trailers, tv spots, and secens shown on various TV shows and that is all I need to see and quite frankly I didn't find them funny or smart, I find them annoying and stupid. I'm not going to waste my money and time on this kind of crap.

That was a damn hysterical line, but I agree that the movie stunks.

Well, it wasn't smart, but it was funny. And I think both movies were going for that. I think Bruno achieved it more than Borat. Borat relied more on gross-out.
But never fear, Saw VI is on the way!

Huh? How was Borat gross compared to Bruno?
Plus I agree, it's better to see a movie before passing judgement on it.

I made a mistake, I meant to say the other way around. That post was all screwed up, i wasn't paying attention. Bruno was grosser, with all the butt sex and dildos and stuff. The only gross part of Borat was him wrestling his fatass "manager" nude on the bed.

BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me take a wild-ass guess on this one. Some people get kidnapped for not valuing their lives enough by some guy (or a representative thereof) who's dying and they are put in situation after situation which requires them to decide whether their lives are more valuable than the lives of others, only to find there's a by-the-numbers twist ending, and all their efforts are basically for naught!

Okay, okay, yeah the SAW franchise does seem pretty played out to me. When Jigsaw died, I really lost interest. And they all were pretty formulaic--I still can't keep them straight, but that may be because my students made me see them all in one weekend. (woozily)
However, the SAW writers are coming out with a new movie with slightly less unoriginal (it seems) concept, _The Collector_. I have to admit, the part of me that likes a reason to justify my insomnia is...intrigued.
Though why they'd swipe the name of another horror movie from '65 is beyond me.
HK, threadjacking, again.

Well, Saw VI SUPPOSEDLY will be the last one, and it will be sort of a prequel, taking place between the second and third movies. Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith will be back just like Costas Mandylor and Jigsaw's wife. And we'll find out what the hell was in the box in Saw V.

We better find out what was in that box. Better not like Ronin where we never find out what was in the case.

I think it's a pig mask. Wow, it's been so long since I saw Ronin. Good movie. Also, we never see what is in the case that Sam jackson and John Travolta recover in Pulp Fiction. I always thought it was the diamonds from the heist in Reservoir Dogs.

As a general rule I don't but in the cases of Borat and Bruno the TV spots and trailers I've seen, neither one don't looks and feels like a movie that I would I enjoy. So why waste my time with them?

I didn't think Bruno was a funny as Borat.

Claiming Fox News has real journalists is like claiming Twilight has real vampires, it's just illogical.

I completely agree with not passing judegment until you've seen something, but all things considered, with Borat/Bruno, trailers essentially give a person all they need to do just that. I'm only making an observation.
