Spike's dad was awesome. You could just imagine him and Prime going to a bar together and talking about how the this generation of kids and Autobots don't have any work ethic.

Yeah man, I always thought Sparkplug was kool, apart from him I think the human charcters just got in the way and caused the Autobots to be distracted in battle.
Wonder how Sparkplug's demise came about?? Coz surely be was only 40-45 in G1 so he would have been only 60ish by the movie yet never got a mention.

I think the only good humans in Tf cartoons were Dr. Archeville and the Cobra guy from the third season.
From comics, my favourites (a lot better characters than anyone in the cartoons) were Circuitbreaker and Lord Zarak.
The kids in the "Unicron-trilogy" (
) were so idiotic, but the worst was Kicker. I wonder why the autobots didn't simply have launched him into an exploding sun...

Ha ha! I think the same thing. Aside from Sparkplug, all the fleshlings just get in the damned way.

Humans were done properly in G1. Those close to either TF side knew how to interact but also put space between them and the TFs, so they wouldn't screw up. The general public were shown to be the idiots that the majority of the general public is.
After G1 and BW, the humans in RID and Armad and so forth have just gotten progressively worse each time.

Humans in Transformers are fine as long as they don't constantly tag along (Armada & Energon)
G1 got it right for the most part with having the humans weigh in on the situation then the Autobots will do their **** while Spike vacuums the Ark.
I'm watching Energon ATM and the human cast in this is far worse than any other I've seen.
Beast Wars nailed it though, stinky monkey-men that get owned by preds.

I liked the humans in G1. I haven't seen any of the other series, so I can't comment on them. I always liked the Raoul and Tracks friendship.

I think what worked so well with Spike and Sparkplug in G1 was that they were average joes, working for a living and eventually being named de facto ambassadors for humanity. The problem with the kids in the recent shows (aside from atrocious animation, of course) is that they're not realistically grounded. Fourteen year olds don't get away with skipping school all the time to hang out with giant robots. Their parents are unusually trusting, and they're all rich big-time physicists to boot.
On top of that, and I say this as a person who thinks that humans are an integral part of how we relate to the Transormers, the humans in the new shows are all given stupid special abilities just to make them useful. Sparkplug didn't need to have colour-changing hair and energon detection abilities to be a useful friend. He was a repairman and an engineer, a source of insight, and held a good father-son dynamic with Spike. Spike himself was brave without being a broken record of "I'll try my best!" and a great on-the-fly mentor for Autobots who weren't used to Earth customs. Very unlike kids whose major contributions include teaching cars to dance or sticking stoplights in the middle of the desert.
There's talk that kids have lower attention spans these days and therefore shows need to be brighter and faster to keep up. I'm not so sure it isn't the other way around.

I liked most of the people in G1. They were portrayed more realisticly, then what I had seen in the little I saw of other shows. I tried to watch Armada, and the thing I noticed was that the humans were drawn in such a way that they looked flat and VERY two-dimensional compared to the more detailed Transformers they were with. I don't really remember seeing if they had parents or not, since I never watched the whole show, but I never saw any. I imagine the Transformers saw them as sentiant, but kind of saw them as pets in a way.

I actually thought Kicker was one of the few tolerable things about Energon...but I guess that's just me

G1 Humans I like. They were a bit more real in both animation styal and personality.
The humans in later series suck. Rad's not that bad, Carlos fell in love with a hologram (as if that would ever happen), and Elexis is the same age but she acts like she's their mother. I really really hate her. Fred and Billy started out as like school bully tyoe characters or at least Billy did, Fred kinda screwed up his image. In real life Billy and Fred would not even be friends. Fred would be the kid Billy would pick on all the time not Rad and Carlos.
Not going into Energon. I just don't understand Kicker at all.

And Kicker was just a pathetic idea!
Just bring back G1!

I liked the humans from G1. Anything after that I'd rather see the Autobots peel out on their faces.
