PC. I think right-clicking is a critical function.

I also like playing games (And not just poopy ports that only exist because Mac fanboys cried all night because Bungie made a good choice going to Microsoft), and being able to write things without having to wade through fifty goddamn menus just so I can change the font one size higher.

God, I couldn't STAND Mac word document! We had to use it in this film class I had, but the teacher only had Macs. NO ONE could figure out how to do anything on it. The guy next to my, whenever I would pose a question why everything on this OS was pointless crap, he would answer with "Because it's a Mac."

HP Integrity Superdome running HP-UX 11iV3.

Because running the VI text edior with 2-Teraybytes of RAM and 64 Dual Core Itaniums would be really cool.

By the GODS! How is that possible?! I mean, I've only heard of Solid state memory going as high as 150GB. Two whole Terabytes?! I must have that. I could run every game until the 20th Generation.

Let me just take this oppurtunity to say that people should stop using the term PC.

PC means personal computer, which is also what Macs are.

I know, it'll never go away because Mac is a brand and PC means every other kind of computer.

But why should Mac be singled out. It too is a PC.

And I'm not answering the question because there is already a thread about this:

I've looked into it, and during my last major upgrade cycle in May, I decided on a WinPC.

The overriding factors were the much better price I got building a system myself, gaming which is one of the main reasons I got a PC in the first place, and lastly upgradability.

Macs don't offer much in the way of SKUs, there's very little room to customise them in terms of the hardware present.
I don't mean being able to use a billion different chipsets in one machine. I appreciate that the best way to build a computer is the way Apple choose to do it, by sourcing from ODMs that provide consistent hardware that an O/S can be tailored to. Still, there isn't much in the way of good graphics cards available unless you want a workstation card for the Pro, which is hardly ideal for games and their ilk.

Sadly, Apple's use of laptop hardware in everything but their Pro range means that there is very little scope for meaningful upgrades. The Mac-Mini and iMac were not made to be taken apart, they use socket-P/ZIF processors, and only the new aluminium 24" iMacs have MXM graphics cards, of which type you'd be hard pressed to find a high(-ish) end model that will work with a Mac.

Software support is not what it should be.
Most Mac users seem to use Bootcamp, VMWare, or a Windows emulator. I can't justify buying a more expensive computer to emulate what I can run natively on this rig.

If Apple put out a lower-end Mac Pro, with a single processor socket, two PCI-E slots, and 800Mhz DDR2 RAM, and seperate parts available from Apple for future upgrades, I'd be extremely tempted to get one, since I could always Dual-Boot Windows for whatever won't run under OSX.

As it stands, the right computer for me turned out to be a Wintel(and Nvidia, ZOMG THE UNHOLY TRINITY OF MONOPOLIST CONSPIRATORS!!1) box, because it's what most closely meets my requirements as a user.

Not totally true. Mac can get worms that are attracted to certain, but non-OS Specific programs. As in, if something is attracted to FireFox, FF is at risk on any OS.

The reason that Windows gets all the nasty stuff is because it has a much larger userbase. Virus makers don't want to waste time on a smaller (By comparison) userbase, when they could go for the larger numbers.

As such, we've learned to deal with it. AVG, Spyware Doctor, the list goes on.

I kinda like this comic. It's kinda funny, and I as a person who's quite happy with his 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac kinda think it might not be so far off the mark...

Shadowman, Macs can right-click - you just need to get a mouse :P

I prefer the interface system of a Mac, though I will remain a Windows man as long as Macs continue to suck at having the latest games

Windows based PC. I like building my own computer. And for half the price of a Mac. That can run 4 times the amount of programs. And can be upgraded at my whim. That can play any game that comes out for a PC because I'm not restricted by an OS. I love me some Quad-Core goodness.

You guys may be able to help me. I'm a Mac user and I got my wife hooked. She also plays WOW and would like a laptop for graduation. However, The largest screen for a Mac is 17" and crazy expensive and with sh!t I don't need.

So here's the dilemma, I need to get the wifey a Gaming laptop that can be networked with my home Mac. It has to be a smooth transition and I don't like Window's Vista. So how do I get a Window's laptop that is new that will use XP not Vista and that will smoothly network with my Mac?

Any help would be appreciated. Graduation is on Dec 15th.

Many Dell Laptops are available with XP still. Also, in terms of networking, do you mean sharing files? It is really easy to do that, I've had no problems sharing drives between a Mac and a PC.

Look, I don't have $20 to spend on a new optical mouse now (Goddamn this ancient ball mouse!), I wouldn't drop twice that for a USB mouse that I can't even use for games.

A legitimate gripe. I prefer Mac over Windows, if I were all that interested in playing on my iMac rather than my consoles or hand-held systems, I wouldn't have that much to be happy about.

Edit: Blizzard did produce World of Warcraft for both operating systems, but I'd rather play Final Fantasy XI. Since I already have it set up on my PS2 (and I'd prefer to play Silent Hill Origins and Pokemon Pearl anyway), I don't need to worry about it.

Cool, thanx.

Lets say, I get her a Dell, that runs XP. The current WOW we have is for the Mac, so I assume I would also have to buy her a WOW for the PC, right?

For the networking, what I really had in mind, is music sharing and getting a direct line hook up to the TV so I can play things on the Mac(movies, videos, porn) and have it broadcvast to the TV(Currently, I don't have the hook up on my G4, but they are on laptops).

Also, to any WOW users out there. You can access your characters from any PC after you log in right?
