So, will the aclu be suing him, or the city? Separation of church and state, right?
Macon, GA mayor celebrates end of Ramadan in city council chambers.

I was just emphasizing the difference when one religion gets into politics vs. another.
If the ACLU had true integrity (rather than a hatred for Christianity), it WOULD challenge this.
The Mayor, while having freedom of religion, should not be using the government building to promote his religion.

I see.
I agree with everything you said. The mayor is free to practice whatever religion, if any, he chooses. But the aclu should go after this with the same fervor they would show if it were a Christmas pageant at an elementary school.

I think it comes down to who is actually paying and how this paragraph can be interpretted.
If by "sponsor" they mean they are paying to hire the chambers and for all the food, decorations etc, then I don't see a problem.
Ellis and the Macon Islamic Center will sponsor a discussion of the holiday at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers. The forum will last until 6:30 or 7 p.m. and culminate in a communitywide feast in the City Hall foyer, said Clarence Thomas, a communications specialist in the mayor's office. Muslim, Jewish and Christian leaders have been asked to attend, he added.

That's it exactly. Sponsor, means someone paid someone else for the use of the facilities. The food, is probably Pot Luck which means everyone brings something. I see nothing wrong with this. Also, other religious minded people we invited, it is after all a forum for discussion, not exclusion.
