Um, no it isn't. Amputate means to remove or cut off something useless, usually a limb. If he had said "Cuts off", maybe, but it wasn't misleading.

Also, I want a Chainsaw/Shotgun/Foam Hulk-Hand if I get anything amputated.

I'd go with Mega Man's arm cannon. Regular hand, for practicality; laser cannon, for smiting my enemies; and a huge number of other settings. "Oh, need the hedges trimmed? It's cool, I beat Cutman this morning."

And yeah, the title is a bit misleading. I thought this was going to be about some crazy dude who cut off his arm so he could attach a robot arm. I didn't know it was about a disabled man who volunteered for an entirely reasonable elective surgery.
