Man 'finishes' World of Warcraft
Wednesday 2-Dec-2009 10:46 AM Taiwanese player completes all achievements - scary unsocial numbers inside
A Taiwanese man has been named as the first player to 'finish' World of Warcraft.
'Little Gray', as his character's known, is the first to successfully complete all of the MMO's 986 achievements listed in the armory, reports MMO Champion.
To reach the milestone the Taiwanese power-player killed 390,895 creatures, accumulated 7,255,538,878 points of damage, completed 5,906 quests (that's 14.62 quests per day, apparently), raided 405 dungeons and hugged 11 players.
The achievement hasn't arrived without some controversy though; WoW-heads point out that technically he's still missing one illusive, event-tied achievement (called "BB King"), but he's managed to dodge it via a glitch awarding one extra, false achievement point.
We say he's not a man until he tracks down and gets that last achievement legitimately.

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

He's a phony. He cheated on that last one so he's not a man yet. I still have time to bring my total up from 0 and totally steal this thing out from underneath him!

In a Galaxy Far Far Awry issue 1: Serial Fiction Sideshow now for sale.
Issue 2: Home Sweet Home Invasion also for sale.
Back issue 3: Technophobia coming soon. And you can help!

This reminds me of the South Park episode where that guy plays WoW all day long and the kids went out to try to destroy him. I guess you can say the guy from Taiwan got his money's worth from the game.

Hehe, I'm with CP on this.
I'm not against MMOs or playing them but I find that they just don't provide the endless enjoyment a lot of people get out of them. I'm content playing with my toys, I mean, action figures!

OK, I've had this thought in the back of my head since I first saw this topic. How can you actually finish a game like WOW? I stopped playing shortly after the first expansion was released, but aren't these games designed to keep going?

One would think that, but then one would think that one wouldn't be able to complete all of the thousands of missions

In a way. He simply completed an exceptionally long list of achievements. I wouldn't consider it finished until he's played every race as every class and used every weapon, fought every monster, and had duels with every race/class combination. There's also every raid and quest, and beating every mob boss. Also world events, and minor or accidental ones like the Corrupted Blood Outbreak, or Lord Kazzak being kited into Stormwind (Look those up if you haven't already, they're both very interesting stories) And exploring every inch of the available map. Until you've literally "done" everything, I don't consider it beaten. And even then, you'd have to repeat it with every expansion.

Agreed. I don't play WoW, but I do play City of Heroes and there is no defeating these games because you will always have multiple types of characters to play as and an enormous list of things to do. Besides, it would kinda suck if you could beat these games because that isn't the point behind them. They are not designed to defeat everything, but rather have fun. If this guy were to beat the entire WoW game, what would he do then? His life would be even more empty like if Captain Ahab had killed Moby Dick and survived to go into retirement.

I play WoW and that's how I see it. I play to have fun, not to work my tail off and get nothing out of it.
