MD-22 Incinerator repaint into ROTF: Whirl (WIP)

Postby Thinktank » Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:49 am

I'm working on project to repaint Incinerator into Whirl.
I had mentioned elsewhere that in my no so humble opinion
that they (Hasbro) should have used the Incinerator
mold for Whirl in the "Masters of Metallikato" 2-pack.
Especially after reading IDW's Stormbringer.

The first major hurdle is getting this sucker apart. He
has more pins than a tailor. The next will be seeing Krylon
fusion gray primer will lock into the "Spark Blue" plastic
parts. They sort of have an "unpaintable plastic" texture
to them I don't like. But before all that, I need to decide;
Should I go with the Dorvack color scheme of the MoM 2pk toy
or the original Whirl light blue?

Any thoughts or pointers on working on this mold?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Here are my prelimenary color tests:

I say, in my humble opinion, the dark blue one. less eye-blisters that way.

I like the G1 scheme, though maybe with duck's egg blue instead?

Incidentally, you can paint over the "spark blue" parts just fine. The only parts that cause problems with paint are the vinyl parts, like mini-Scorpy.

I'm thinking something like this:

Alt Mode:

Robot Mode:

Which is a combo of the two color schemes. I call it the "Shipwreck"
pattern.

BTW thanks for the intel on the blue plastic. It should make things
a lot easier on the painting end. Also I do like that shade of blue.
you linked, I may end up using it.

Please remember these are merely color scheme concept proofs
(made on 'Paint' no less) so those will not be the final shades
of the colors depicted.
