Re: NASA is making an MMO
Maybe it will be like a sims in space or something.
But if your going with teh realism scene, people will get tired of doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, so they might quit.
THis is why you put in a ranking system!
Start as a cleaner, and move your way up the list Maybe astronaut being last.
Maybe you will be able to pick where your from, you could be a russian cosmonaut or something.
Not really, because if you havent realised we've entered an age of technology where realism is damn near everything in games now. They may leave RPGs and such as fantasy, But NASA + MMO = Probably the most realistic game ever.

Going into space in real life would be awesome, but in a game, it's boring now. You can't base an MMO on preparing to launch, then orbiting the planet for a while. Collecting data is for real life. Not for videogames. If you want a space MMO to sell, it needs aliens. It needs other planets. That's what games are for. Things you can't do for real.

wow! I can't wait to polish floos till they shine, then they might let me into space!!!!!
Because that's how things work in real life! Any cleaner, if he does a good enough job, can be sent into space!
Besides, why does it have to be a space game?

i dunno, if its ultra realistic its gonna be a damn challenge to land the damn ship back on earth. Well it seems hard enough from what i see on the news anyhow, they are always blowing up or failing big style

Because I don't think a WoW clone would create interest in NASA and space.

What else would NASA make?
Dude, forget the cleaner thing. Of course that's not going to be in it.
This game will be the experience of being an astronaut. Nothing more. Nothing less. It's a simulator. And if you think that's not a huge challenge, then you must be a huge genius and should go right over to NASA right away and sign on to be the first man on Mars.
I say it again. Microsoft Flight Simulator. That game was huge when it came out. It was like being a pilot. You could say "Who wants to play a game like that, with all those dials and altimeters? That's not fun at all!" The answer is, pilots want to play it. People who are interested in aviation want to play it.
And this game appeals to people that are interested in realistic space physics and the real experience of outer space.
Why do you keep knocking this game? Your arguments are nothing more than grasping at straws to justify a subjective opinion as fact. It's not your bag. We get it.

Why do you keep knocking my arguments! I told you, I like to argue! Anyhow, I liked Flight Simulator. It was simple. But it wasn't an MMO.

How do you find a decent argument against what is clearly going to be an interesting, to say the least, game?

The question isn't "how?", it's "why?".
You said it yourself, it will clearly be an interesting game. So why are you arguing over it at all?
Look, your arguements aren't very good because you don't have a leg to stand on. You're pushing your opinions like they're a case, and they aren't.
A good argument against this game would be "An MMO of realistic space is impractical because realistic space flight is extremely slow, and it would take hours just to reach the space station from launch."
Now I don't believe that. It's just an example of a sound, well-structured argument. I have faith that NASA will be able to put a lot of tasks into the launch process, and it will not be dead time at all.
You can't just say "Why space?" and "You could be a cleaner!" Those are either opinions or exaggerations.
If you like to argue, I recommend reading up on Logical Fallacies. You not only will see some of your own logical mistakes, but be able to catch others' as well. There is a whole field of study out there that structures statements and logic like equations, and basically turns language into math. Look up "Motus Ponens" and "Motus Tolens". It's the most hideous thing I've ever seen in my life, but if you master the structure and analysis of Logic, you will always be able to catch your opponent off guard, and expose all his points as the lies they are.

The bit about the long time travel was what I was trying to say. I somehow managed to get words from the opposite end of the scale though...and I just assumed they'd speed it up somewhat.

Probably. MMOs have a tendency to shrink distances. In LOTRO, the Misty Mountains can be reached in maybe a half an hour, while in the books and movie, it took several weeks to get there.
