Optimus Prime and Megatron brothers?

They never were in any of the cartoons or profiles I've ever seen.
I really don't like the idea...
Maybe I'm just inflexible...

Maybe Optimus meant it in kind of a poetic kind of way...?
Like if you have a connection to a person whether you're related or not you can refer to them as such...
Like some one says something you agree with and you say, "You got that right, sister(brother)!!"
Optimus and Megatron are connected to each other even if they don't like each other.
They are both leaders, they are both Transformers, they're both from Cybertron, they're both men...
I don't know... Maybe I'm just rambling...

Given the way and the point he says it in the movie, I took it as meaning Brother In Arms. Perhpas they fought together in a war long before the split into the Decepticons.
However, the game usees it far too much for this to be the case. So I ignore it and say what I said above.

I think it would be cool, it would make the whole story more dramatik and sad!

The way I look at it, they are brothers. Now some people who don't like the idea pounced on me and others who thought the idea possible and called us stupid and retarded for thinking that Prime and Megs had mummies and daddies, but there are no other Transformers who have referred to each other, friend or foe, as brother, whereas only Prime and Megatron have done - even Prime with his poetics never refers to his best friend Ironhide as brother, clearly they are not 'related' - I happily admit this is speculation, but for some reason some who are against the 'brother' idea are very uptight and angry about it - 'it's never been done before, therefore it's impossible'.
In the DS game version it seems Megatron stole the Spark of his and Optimus's father. I agree that the movie only mentioned brothers once, whereas in the comic and the game they use it a lot more, but this means it could go both ways. What little we have to work with, it might be a feud between these two ancient brothers (Cain and Abel parallels?) who have both gathered volunteer militia (Autobots) or hardcore separatists (Decepticons) to fight each other.

This is where I leave speculation and plead ignorance because that's all that's mentioned. Now people will say, 'but this is too organic for Transformers!'
Yeah, and Primus/Unicron aren't too organic? Heck, they're thought of as Gods and worshipped as a God/Dark God; they are based very heavily on common religious themes such as Light/Darkness from the One, eternal conflict between life and death, except rather than a divine conflict, this was fought between two massive immortal metallic planets.
We know that in this movie universe, so far, Prime and Megs are the most powerful beings. They aren't gods, but they can certainly be an Abel and Cain. After all, Cain did betray his brother.

Wow the blurb about the DS game sounds very interesting. I've only played the PS2 version. Can you elaborate a little bit more about how that was presented? Was it in the opening of the game? Part of the plot of the game somehow? Just one little line of dialogue? That's very interesting. I figured it was more of a plutonic brotherhood kind of thing. And it's not like anyone had much in the way of dialogue to even get the chance to call anyone else brother. Prime didn't even really refer to Ironhide as his best friend. I mean we all know it, but I don't think he directly referred to him that way.

Sorry, I cannot elaborate. I don't have a DS, and from what I have read it was a one-liner. but remember, almost all the 'brother' references are made in one-liners... just think of the movie. This leads speculation in two ways: brothers simply as friends, or that Megatron and Prime were so intimate as brothers already they referred to it like everyday language.

I like organic aspects in Transformers.
And I like your reasoning.
I'm still not a fan of the idea of them being brothers, but I'm not saying that it's impossible.

And I don't mind people disliking, or even hating, the idea. Just be careful that with the little info we've got, this MIGHT be a possibility. As I've always said, I could be totally off the mark.
Or not.

I think that he meant brothers as in we're both from the same race and the same planet, like humans would call each other brothers sometimes.

brothers in the way I suspect they are (literally), or in the metaphorical sense?

The one I read last week says "Megatron is the Brother of Optimus Prime, they are both from Cybertron..." I'm paraphrasing but that's the extent of what it said. If you're in Wal-Mart or Barnes and Noble flip through the kids books, I think it's the "Meet the Decepticons" one...

That sounds like it's possible that the person writing was going solely on the movie script, & might have misinterpreted it. After all, who's going to critique a kiddie "I can read!!" book?jacksonspade wrote:The one I read last week says "Megatron is the Brother of Optimus Prime, they are both from Cybertron..." I was actually somewhat suprised & a tad disspaointed at this, because the concept of them being "brothers" has been known since the first script leak, & it was said to have been left out due to fan outcry.
To me, the way it was said in the movie seemed to be dealing with them as former comrades. The prequel comic referred to Prime & Megs as being joint rulers of Cybertron, so that could have been what it was referring to.
I would also assume it would not be in the realm of impossibility for the game to reference it moreso simply due to the fact that Peter Cullen & Frank Welker are apparently good friends, & in that sense they themselves would like to see in some way a sense of "family" between the two characters, & so ran with the idea.
However, considering some of the other mistakes in the movie, such as Brawl being called Devastator, which was Brawl's codename prior to Hasbro's final naming of the robots, I would think this would possibly be something that was meant to be left out & was forgot about.
Either way, untill they make further references to it in later films, I would count it as just meaning comrade/fellow ruler, & leave it at that.

I love the idea of them being brothers, if only for the 'painful irony' factor and the sad social commentary on the nature of war.
