Optimus Prime cookie jar... any idea what I should sell it for?

Got this awhile ago for cheap, had to remove some biking sticker a kid slapped on his head. But when he was polished up, it was actually in pretty good condition!

I heard it was released only to "Green Stamps" stores (???) but I'm not sure I trusted that source.

So... are these rare? Do they go for alot?

Here's the pics... the 2 images before the last show the slight crack as well as a ding on his middle helmet piece.

I also heard it may have been made by 2 different companies... but again, poopy source.

Any verifiable data on this puppy?

Never seen it before. It'll probably go for around $50. What does the crack look like form the outside?

I don't notice it from the outside. : )

EDIT: Actually, after seeing it under a camera flash situation:
http://www.maj.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1135191

Did a little more Google searching... found one place that had one for $165, and another over $200.
And one of them had uglier blemishes on it, like his faceplate with a giant scratch!

Well, it's not often I sell strange or rare stuff... but it's even more perplexing because I don't know a whole hell of a lot about it yet.
For instance, I'm wondering just how many were made.
That's important because due to their fragile nature, I can't imagine a whole hell of a lot still exist.

This site lists the manufacture date as 1985: http://www.plumed-serpent.com/artifacts.html

So far, these are the only places online I've seen it referenced with pics:

$165
http://www.tias.com/7805/InventoryPage/1444324/1.html

(no value determined):
http://www.mythings.com/viewitem.aspx?itemid=218429

Notice too, where theirs both have silver, mine is more gold.
So, that makes my quest for historical data even more complex... and this variant to the jar perhaps making mine even more rare.
Of course, I do wonder if it's oxidization.
(I have NO idea).

However, I'm concerned in selling it in a timely manner, as it might get lost on eBay... surrounded by the upcoming Optimus cookie jars slated as merchandise for the new movie.

Anyone? Any info on it at all?

I'd be interested in picking this piece up. Anything you may be looking to trade for? If not, let me know the ballpark you're looking to sell it for. I think the prices you found are slightly inflated. ;-)

I agree. Then again, I have no idea what it initially sold for in '85... and I'll be damned if I can find more than a handful of places online selling them.

As for trade... beats me. I mostly buy Lego now, being slightly disenfranchised with Hasbro stuff lately. I just moved and was going through my old toy bins, noticing how badly the plastic ages as far as color goes.

I think you would get more for this selling it to a cookie jar collector then to a transformer collector.. I sold one of the old metal lunchboxes for over 200$ to a lunchbox collector on ebay a few years back.. He went nuts and outbid anyone that tried to get it from him, i was pretty shocked that someone bid so much for it and there were other ones on ebay like mine that were selling for only around 40$ or so .. List it on ebay with a high reserve or something and list it in the Cookie Jar section as well as the Transformers section.. I really wouldn't be surprised if a cookie jar collector gets it before a TF Collector lol .. I think you will get a pretty penny for it, they are rare.. I only seen maybe 3 of them 4 counting yours.

Good Luck with it :)

Ah, you have a good point, and one that was directly under my nose, too.
Most of the places online even MENTIONING it are cookie jar fanatic sites.

Thanks a bunch! :)

I can't lol.
Identity theft = No credit card to get a "seller" account!

Though I may be able to afford a prepaid card on the 1st of June, so we'll see.

Well you wanna just sell it to me?

Or what were you looking for... Lego? I have a couple Lego sets, they're opened but they have their instructions and all their pieces. They're all modern ones though.

Edit: By the way, sorry to hear about the identity theft. That's always a bitch.

I'll probably put it on eBay after the 1st of June, reserve price it at $275.
Just for the hell of it, to see how it goes.

Hey, you never know, and what with the current movie and all... 8)
