1) A theif is a theif, the same guy that will steal a TV from a shop is the same guy that will steal your wallet.
2) Crime like this affects you and I more than the company. Something like £6 billion per year is lost to shoplifters in the UK alone and that cost is recouped by uping prices to the customer. That means you're paying more so this guy can have a free TV.

I've worked in Walmart, if someone manages to trick them out of a TV, more power to him

WalMart can make a profit, sure. But when their profit margins start looking like the income of small countries, that's just wrong.
And if they closed, I'd still be able to buy everything I needed. You know why? Because it'd give small shops a chance to compete again.
And that's why big businesses are thieves. Because they steal the market right out from under honest people's feet.

Sure they'll close and you'll still be able to buy things, there's nothing stopping you from doing that now. I go downtown and there's nothing but small shops competing against each other. I fail to see your reasoning.
I go into Wal-Mart, I guess they're nothing but thieves in there too. Every employee, every person who shops there? Seriously, you're reasoning is crap.

omg [rant] i hate it when people yell at me when we run out of produce..... i mean if you dont see it and something is in it's spot.... it kinda sorta tells you that there isnt any in the store...... or when i'm working in the produce department and some one asks me about something in frozen food (which i'm not trained in) and then yell at me or belittle me cause i cant help them..... it's not my fault walmart trains it's employees IN THE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY ARE HIRED FOR............... Me and my coworkers at my last job had jokes about this kind of topic. Customers would always ask us questions like "You're out? So the ad was just to get me in here?" or "Are you hiding any in the back?". It was annoying as hell. Don't yell at the employee, he's not a crook, he's a part time worker making rent for the month. And yelling at the store when they have no control over how much of a product corporate sends them is a pain too. But I digress...

What's funny is that Wal-mart made a statement saying they weren't going to prosecute shoplifters because it wasn't worth the money. This guy, on the other hand, is a clear LP hit. At what point did he think people wouldn't notice the giant TV and a $5 receipt?

He wouldn't get caught. They have no LP there, no one watching the cameras. Wal-Mart rather take the hit then pay for serciuty.

Um.....Well obviously he did get caught so someone was watching something. Perhaps read the article before commenting on it because with that statement it seems like you are just making a halfass knock on wal-mart.
