Real Life Barricade project - help needed!
Whats up guys, new member long time collector.
I am currently building a show car for Scion Corp. The car is a Scion xD and is being built to be a hatchback version of Barricade from the movie. The only snag I have ran into is getting a great high rez or vector style image of the police badge used on the car. If any of you have access to this or the art skills please help me out. I am very excited to be able to build this car for Scion to take out on the road and think it will be exciting for all transformer fans.
Thanks in advance, Scott

Hold it.
First off Barricade is a Saleen, a Scion is a HUGE downgrade.
And, although I haven't a clue what a vecor image is, I'll look for a picture.
But, 100% gainst making Barricade some import car. *sigh*
Too bad.

I'm looking at the logo, and it wouldn't be too difficult to recreate if you have a scanner and Illustrator or Freehand.

It's legal to make a fake cop-car....just not legal to put it on the road...At least in most states I have been to

Considering it's going to have a big Decepticon logo on it, the words "To Punish and Inslave" on it, and non-working sirens... it should be legal.Bumblebee-otch wrote:is it legal to make a fake cop-car?
If they did put working sirens on the car and actully had the proper markings then it'd be illegal.
BTW I put should in bold because I'm not 100% sure on this. It might actully still be illegal regardless.

Not much legal issues on this car really. Only real issues are if and when we would fire up the lights on the actual roads. This car will mostly be a trailor queen though and travel around to owner events for Scion.
Also in response to a Scion being a downgrade.. heres my thoughts. I had a chance to build a car for the company I work for and a car make I drive. I know it isnt the same car, but IMO thats what will make this project fun, and original.

You can actually order a vinyl sticker of the logo at
http://www.digital-toys.com
I am not sure if it is 100% accurate but here is a picture of it.

i think it would be because it would confuse people. what if you were driving down the road in a barricade-replica, and you pass a robbery with people crying for help?

on a side note, i met a girl last night who had a 2005 salene! but it was white with red stripes, and no grill-guard or lights

Key words "Trailor Queen" and "Show Car" everything is pre-thought and already checked into. So no worries.Bumblebee-otch wrote:Saber Prime wrote:Considering it's going to have a big Decepticon logo on it, the words "To Punish and Inslave" on it, and non-working sirens... it should be legal.Bumblebee-otch wrote:is it legal to make a fake cop-car?

I don't see why it would be illegal to make up such a car, anyway. Obviously, taking it on the road, sirens wailing, would be illegal but they made one for Transformers so I don't see why one couldn't be made for a show.

Being into show cars as well, this doesn't sound right. Knowing Toyota (from Import show car experience), this does not sound like anything they would do. Unless you are slapping stickers from Scion Life on your car, I don't think this is a Corporate sponsor. And as far as I know, Toyota only commisions 5-Axis to do their projects. And if you're from 5-Axis, shame on you for even thinking this.

Of course, I'm 97% biased against imports. Only American owned companies are acceptable.

Ha ha ha, you're a funny person. What's an American car company? Honda in Ohio that makes a car with American labor and 97% american parts, or Chevy making cars in China! It's not the 1970's anymore.

Look, we think different, get over it.
I don't need another argument over this.Besides, making parts here doesn't make you American.

wow... I will step aside from going into defense mode on this one. However Scion often has different car groups build cars for them. For example the Rally xA Scion Evolution built. But I didnt post this up to have to defend or justify any of it. I had only assumed as fellow fans and collectors I would possibly recieve some help and make some friends in the process.GetterDragun wrote:Being into show cars as well, this doesn't sound right. You must be like 12. The argument doesn't bother me really because you can't justify it at all. I prefer buying from Toyota who pays American autoworkers higher wages than any "American" car company. So I guess you prefer American autoworkers to get less money and have their jobs shipped to China.

And remember, ALL the "domestic car companies" are practically overflowing with foreign parts...and foreign labor....Think "FORD"

Wasn't a vast majority of the G1 Autobot car modes based off "import" designs? Porsche, VW, Nissan, and Lamborghini to name a few. There were some American made cars as well but "imports" made up a huge chunk of the cast.
With that having been said, I agree that I just don't think you can build a replica of Barricade as anything other than a Saleen Mustang. I believe it is one of the S281 models. I also don't understand why Scion would commission an xD to be built to look like Barricade. They had nothing to do with the movie nor would this be a good promotion for them. Also, I imagine that using the Transformers license to promote the Scion brand without permission would land them in some serious legal trouble with Dreamworks Pictures and Hasbro.
Even if Scion did want to follow through with a project like that and had legel permission to do so, why would they use a station wagon? The tC with a good body kit would at least stand a chance of looking close to Barricade, but even that is going to look poor compared to a Saleen Mustang. It's like when people put scissor doors on a Honda to give it a Lamborghini look, it just isn't the same.
If Scion is really interested in doing a Transformers project, they would be better off trying to take a Scion xB, which is probably their best selling car anyways, and do Transformers: Animated Soundwave. Animated is going to be coming off the tail end of the movie hype and with Soundwave arguably being one of the most popular and recognizable Transformers characters, he would probably be a better and more feasible choice for Scion than Barricade. If you haven't seen any of the preview molds or production pictures of the new Soundwave, he looks just like an xB so he's already a good fit. Give him some Decepticon symbols and a red, Gibson Flying V guitar, which is Laserbeak's new altmode and you have a pretty nice promotional vehicle.
Scion has used it's likeness for Autobot Skids from the Alternators line. He is a Scion xB with a pretty nice custom flame paint job. I believe Binaltech Asterix Broadblast is also a silver xB. Those would both be a better tie in for Scion as a promotional replica vehicle than Barricade as well.

Sometimes I wonder why I even say anything.
I'm just trying to avoid it in saying we think differently, and still you push it, you're worse than me.

Ignore the peanut gallery.
I am going to transform my truck in some way. I think I am going to make a custom brushgard that has swing out pincers hidden underneath. Nothing dangerous or sharp. My kids want me to add potato cannons to the roof rack. I have a 15 inch decepticon symbol on the hood.
What do you plan to do for your customizations?

Full light bar, bash guard, 4 corner strobes, black rims, full suspension transplant, exhaust and minor engine bolt ons, full stereo revamp, roof light matching underglow. decal work, and a bunch more. At the very least this will be a exciting build for trans fans and scion owners. but personally its to feed my own desire to build this for fun.
