Okay ive beenaround the boards for awhile, is the toysrus I go to the only one in the western hemisphere that has normal prices, because deluxes are like 14 dollars, voyagers 19, and legends 5. I don't know if thats because in the state of Oregon there's no sales tax or what.

I just realized something with Menasor's chest. It's Blackjack in part-vehicle mode. Has anyone else noticed this?

I didn't get the SDCC set and I can't imagine getting this. Still, I am impressed by how nicely they turned out, especially Slog/Sludge.

So, one of the most prevailing complaints of many third party combiners is the usage of the limb-bot's legs as makeshift elbows. Hasbro does two and no one makes a peep?

That was a complaint? I always though that was kinda clever since it uses the joints already there... I guess i'm just dumb

A thought came to me yesterday. Remember those legends we saw that weren't coming with targetmaster partners? We know now that Powerglide becomes a gun for Superion so I think that's the gimmick sorta going forward. I say sorta since Skywarp uses the same mold as Starscream and has no way of transforming into a gun; Bombshell on the other hand... I thought something was up with his hands.

It's a matter of getting what you pay for, I think. Usage of individual bot hips as gestalt elbows is something Hasbro has been doing for a while. But when you're paying 6-10 times the price of a Hasbro combiner for a 3rd Party one, you expect many of the gaps and other perceived visual flaws not otherwise fixable on a mass release to be more creatively repaired.

It's going to be interesting to see how the Legends figures play into the "Combiner Wars" next year. So far we've seen legends Powerglide as a gun, but we've also seen "Blackjack" as chest armor for Menasor. Is he going to be legends scale or deluxe scale? Will Menasor get a designated weapon partner too? Will Superion get a chest armor piece made of yet another honorary Aerialbot? I have a feeling there's going to be a LOT of interactivity options with these figures. It's kind of like Hasbro went back to the PCC concept and decided to do the combiner aspect right this time (no more character-less drone limbs, etc.).

If you remember G1 Motormaster came with a car drone that became the chest so I think using Blackjack is an homage to that unless it turns out that Blackjack can be either chest armor or a gun. Powerglide too.

totally correct. so all they needed was a name for a non-descript black decepticon car, ala blackjack (a micromaster i believe).chuckdawg1999 wrote:If you remember G1 Motormaster came with a car drone that became the chest so I think using Blackjack is an homage to that unless it turns out that Blackjack can be either chest armor or a gun. everyones hoping this is the beginning of a line of combiners. theres speculation that wildrider and slingshot were replaced by a helicopter and suv specifically to re-purpose them for future combiners.dalekslayer96 wrote:Holy... Indeed, I did not remember that (I never had the Stunticons anyway). That's a nice little detail for Hasbro to carry forward. That makes the vibe about these upcoming combiners all the better. Hasbro really seems to care about doing these right by G1 fans.

Now here's the thought I had today, did the cartoon have the chest plate?

The G1 toy definitely had the chest plate... but I don't recall the chest plate appearing in the cartoon. Also, I just realized Hasbro Menasor's horns (another contentious feature) appear to be a compromise between the cartoon & toy versions.

In that case, I'm hoping that we get all combiners ever shown throughout all of the Transformers in this line.

That seems a little too ambitious, but I do hope we get a good selection. Aerialbots, Stunticons, Protectobots, Combaticons, Technobots, Constructicons, and maybe even Predacons, Terrorcons, Seacons. And I'll be straight: I had Beast Wars Magnaboss as a kid, I'd love to see them acknowledge and/or remake the Beast Wars combiners Magnaboss and Tripredacus. They could change their construction to be scramble city like, I wouldn't mind, although they might have to rename Tripredacus if they did him with 5 members.
I know I just said it was unlikely, but I can dream.

Re: SDCC 2014 Coverage - Discussion Thread
I'm amazed at the pricing for the SDCC Dinobots on BBTS. It's going for $300 and is actually sold out. I know they look wonderful and all, but that's around the same price as a 3rd party combiner for 4 bots and a cardboard playset ($75 per figure for a Deluxe those doing the math). Did anyone here actually put in a preorder for that? I can't see too many people paying that much (or more) to snag a set on ebay so if the sellout was due to the scalpers, I suspect they'll be in for a rude awakening in this case unless I'm very much mistaken and you guys are willing to pay that much $ for this set.
So far I've preordered all of the Takara variants of the AoE AD Deluxe Dinobots, including the G1 repaints they've made available so far (Slag and Grimlock so far, though I expect they'll do the others as well) and while they do cost more, I won't have to sweat the scarcity that this set will obviously suffer from. It reminds me of the SDCC FoC Bruticus set. The SDCC version was the one everyone wanted (myself included) so many of us (including me) paid out the wazoo for it, then along comes Takara with a better paint job for around the same price or less when compared to the aftermarket prices of the SDCC set.
I did go ahead and preorder the Amazon exclusive Slog though, but he'll be cancelled as soon as Takara announces theirs, assuming they do.

There's only one question on my mind about the combiners right now.
Will we get Seacons? Because if we do, then Hasbro is getting all of my money!
(Also it would be kinda cool if they did Tentakil as a fembot, like his BWN redeco Scylla- not G1 accurate in the slightest, but come on, it's a squid girl -de geso! Or heck, how about a robot Frank. N. Furter?)

I'm not shelling out $300 for this set. That and the Knights of Unicron set are consistently selling for $250 each on eBay. I might pick the sets up for that price, if I can't them on HTS. But my priority at the moment is the Marvel Legends The Thanos Imperative set...

Oh and I second that earlier post on Rhinox being the closest thing we'll get to an MP Beast Wars figure in a while. He is phenimonal and easily my favourite toy of 2013
