Out of the two tf prime cliffjumper's we've seen/gotten which one do you like more?
In my case I like the first edition one with flip out guns. Plus it looks more accurate to the CGI model IMO.
The normal release looks ok but why did he have to have a hammer? Maybe he comes back and that's why he has another toy comeing out.

Re: So what cliffjumper do you like?
yeah, from the first indication that there were 2 (3 if you count Zombie-Cliff) toys for him, I've assumed he'll be coming back. Not sure that'll happen though as there have been a few times I'd thought it would, and he hasn't yet. I wonder if they want/planned to bring him back but The Rock's schedule has stopped it?
As for the toys, I'll see what I can get, I like the design but I can't say I'm too familiar with what the 2 different versions look like.

assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Here ya go.

I definitely prefer the first one. The legs on the second one have all that kibble and those cumbersome shoulders look like they might interfere with his articulation.

I really like the guns of the First Edition one, but I prefer everything else about the other version. The First Edition one just looks kind of flat.

Both molds have their strengths, but I think the size of the final product is going to be the deciding factor.
I haven't decided if I'm going to collect Prime across the board or not yet, and Cliffjumper is a fairly large car in alt mode, so I'm going to go with the FE because it's larger and will look right when displayed with Classics et al Deluxe figures. It also appears that Zombie Cliffjumper is based off the larger FE mold; it would be nice if CJ and Zombie CJ were the same size.
Now that the choice of First Edition has been made, a further question: Hasbro or Takara?
I'm leaning towards Takara because it seems to have a slightly better deco; the only place I've seen comparison shots that highlight the differences between the two are at Ages Three and Up:
The Takara version is in stock now at a number of retailers; the Hasbro version is only slightly cheaper where it's available at all.
I'm going to suppose a comparison photo of the Hasbro First Edition, Takara First Edition and Hasbro Robots in Disguise versions all together is waaaay too much to ask.

Re: So what cliffjumper do you like?
First Edition, Hasbro version. I like the flip out guns and he's not super short and cheap-looking like the RID one. I also prefer the Hasbro colors because of the tinted windows, and I'm not a fan of the metallic paint Takara likes to use these days.
The RID mold has a few strengths though, like the legs (sans kibble) being more screen-accurate. Actually, in a lot of ways it's more accurate than the FE mold, but to achieve that they had to make a fake chest and a lot of back kibble, which I'm not fond of. I also don't like the weapon at all.
I don't take all these toys as an indication he'll be coming back. Hasbro has made toys for characters that only made 1 appearance so it's highly likely CJ's done. But it doesn't bar some sort of ridiculous miracle I guess.

I'm not sure what idiot in Hasbro's/Takara's marketing division told their toy designers that kids would like a smaller, under-engineered, hollow-legged, gun-less and kibbly version of Cliffjumper, but I sure would like to give them a piece of my mind.
It feels like Hasbro/Takara is taking a page out of most KO making company's books:
Make it cheaper, make it simpler, and give it as many hollow joints and massive, badly-hidden panels as possible.
First Edition FTW!

What recent decision of Hasbro can't the above picture apply to?

I far prefer the FE figure. The only thing about the RID one that is better IMHO is something that kirbenvost already pointed out - the legs look more show-accurate. But beyond that... let's just say I'll always prefer the toy that can include accurate weapons that are fully concealed in alt-mode, rather than the "mech-tech" style of sticking a weapon into a port on a car like some god-awful roof-rack (unless it is a target master).

Just got in the Takara FE version; he's awesome but he's pretty small. Very glad to not have gotten the even smaller RID version....

As my preorder got cancelled and he's going for nearly four times retail price on ebay I'll wait for the zombie version. It still has flip-out guns, right?

Re: So what cliffjumper do you like?
I prefer the design on the 1st edition over the PRID. I have a pre-order for Takara's FE but if it doesn't come through I might buy Hasbro's PRID... dunno yet. Might just wait for zombie mode.
I just feel PRID is less interesting. The grey is "bleh" and the lack of high rising shoulder plates just seems to take away a lot of character. The obvious difference in size between the chest and the hips (mostly caused by the gap) helps give him more shape and really makes him seem more like a character rather than a hunk of plastic. And the tinted windows add a nice touch all around, especially in the car mode where there is less to look at.
Had Hasbro never made the 1st editions I'd have said Cliff looks a little goofy but still bought him in a heartbeat. But the fact they did and the FE is so much better looking IMO it, well, hurts a bit.

You guys really ought to check out the review of RID Cliffjumper that Peaugh put up on Youtube last night, really made me give the guy another look. Goes over the pros and cons of both RID and FE figures and he actually leans towards RID.
- Chest is fake, but less blocky and more model accurate. Plus you don't have to worry about paint thickness over blue clear plastic causing discoloration like on FE.
- No arm cannons, but you don't have random prongs of plastic shooting past the hand.
- RIDs car mode seems to have less panel lines.
- Legs are hollow, but more model accurate.
- FE's tinted windshield hides inner workings better, but RID's doesn't have a big seem in it.
- Silver face, good light piping.
- Several shades of grey plastic and silver where previous images were washed out and made it all look one solid grey. Though the plastic around the neck could stand to be a bit darker.
- As many paint apps as FE, possibly even more.
- Only slightly smaller than FE in car mode, not nearly as small as Windcharger like some images lead you to believe.

i've seen the reviews as well, and now i don't feel so bad about getting the RiD version instead of the FE. it's not nearly as bad as it seemed.

On the bright side, Takara's AM-08 Terrorcon Cliffjumper appears to still be based on the FE mold, is available many places for preorder, and includes a suh-weet Micron to boot!Evil_the_Nub wrote:Mykltron wrote:Mykltron wrote:I'll take one of the first version with flip-out guns please.

I saw Peaugh's review as well and I agree. It's not nearly as bad as initial pictures made it seem. However I already have FE CJ and I still like him more mostly because of the alt mode colors, cheat-less transformation, and slightly bigger size. But if I wasn't able to get the FE, I could be happy with RID.

It's kind of a moot point since I'll probably get totally fished in and buy the RID mold for the Micron, despite having the Takara FE already.kirbenvost wrote:I saw Peaugh's review as well and I agree. It does make me glad that the Takara Cliffjumper and the Hasbro Starscream are the only FE deluxe molds I decided to pick up. I'm still not sold on "I'm a gigantic motorcycle!" Arcee yet, Micron or no.

Sadly I can't afford Takara toys unless they're WAY better than the Hasbro ones (Ratchet I hope), so they're all moot to me.

That review does make RiD Cliff look far more palatable... and I do like that the legs are far more accurate. The one thing I don't get though.... what's with the "fake wheels" on the backs of his legs? What purpose do they serve?
