I've been re-reading Beast Wars: The Gathering and Dawn of Futures Past and it got me thinking. Are all protoforms just utterly blank slates with a new spark with no prior life experience OR can Transformers be reverted to protoform status in order to be ready to explore/colonise new worlds.

I ask because its made obvious that sparks can be transfered into a protoform body (I.E. Tigatron, Airrazor and Ravage) and also the Maximals and Preadcons that are activated in Gathering all look like they know their stuff regardless of being protoforms. And then there's the question of Grimlock being in the Axalons crew as a protoform.

The Protoforms are most probeble Cybertronians in standby, you can mostprobebly transfer your sparc from a body to a notherone.
Since evelution made them smaler it's only logical to go with the flowe.

It seems that Protoforms could be either. While originally it seemed that Airazor and Tigatron were completely new lifeforms upon their "birth" from the pods, it's been recently retconned that they had a prior existence on Cybertron before their sparks were transfered to blank protoforms on the Axalon.
Also Rampage was placed in a stasis pod as a protoform before Axalon left Cybertron.

And don't forget when Tiagtron came out of his pod, Optimus Primal recognized him.
