I used to be a big star wars fanboy. I read many novels that followed it. But since the release of the prequel, everything was shattered. Most of what was known about the past was now false. Things did match up anymore. But even without the novels adding up to the old movies, the new movies contradict many things in the old movies. And those new movies aren't very good . Mainly because of bad writting and not credible interaction between the characters. (Lucas didn't want to waste too much money on making more shots...) The choices of actors for Anakin are weak. I saw the 3 final kids who auditioned for anakin in Ep 1 and I can't believe they didn't take the light blond boy.
When I think about it, "A New Hope", the weakest of the old movies, was the only one directed by Lucas. The episode 5 and 6 were directed by others.
Lord of the Rings is a strong story written in a complete universe. The movies were directed by the very dedicated Peter Jackson.
LotR wins.

As much as I like both franchises, I just find LotR more brutal. The original Star Wars movies I've seen coutless times. I still have Empire and Jedi on beta. I've watched the newer trilogy a lot less, and I watch the original quite often still. Jedi was the first movie I went to back in the early 80s.
LotR I've seen countless times also, I even used vacation time at work to go to the premires. The characters were better developed, and there was an actual sense of dread in the books and movies.
If we are going by a technical standpoint, the Empire would easily win. A fleet of Star Destoyers = Game Over. That being said, I just like the LotR world better.

Sometimes, just checking one more store isn't worth it

2000AD comic did a story similar to this recently. It was called Kingmaker. The galactic empire conquered the mediaeval world quite easily but then people realised that they had the power to strike back because their world was full of magic.
