Great shots, Agamemnon, it's helping my decision, but shame on you for not having an "ARE ALL DEAD" pose.

I think TFYuki beat me to that.
(Edit: or was it the official Takara shots...

If you don't mind sharing, where did you get him and for how much? I'm trying to find the best option as far as price and shipping vs. shipping time. I want to get the figure ASAP, but not pay an arm and a leg. Thanks for the comments, all!I am really excited to have this guy, and I hope all who are ordering are as happy as I am.

Whereas other pics make the opposite look true, giving the purple a light and pale appearance.
Alfes has the colors right now that I have it in person. It's not even the same shade of purple that they had used on Shockwave on the box. Ugh. It's not horrible like Henkei Cyclonus, but it's definitely more in that direction.

I'm having [sarcasm]fun[/sarcasm] trying to get my white balance adjusted properly so that what my eyes see is what my camera takes. These colors are whacked! I think the toy is right on my camera but the sticker sheet that has a purple background is almost blue on my camera. Playing around with the settings to see what I can come up with to make it as accurate as possible. My lightbulbs in my studio softbox lights are at 5500 Kelvin, just have to fudge around with the camera settings some more to get it right.

I got mine from BBTS. I live, iterally, across the river from them so I always get it the next day. Plus, I buy enough to make the POL shipping very much worth it. This shipment got me Shocky, MP Hot Rod, CW G2 Menasor, War in Pocket Hulkie (3P Legends Devastator), and Sonitech (3P Legends Blaster set). $12.74 for all of that shipped.
I feel for you, Seibs. I don't have nearly the equipment or setup, and I had a tough time taking pics... I still am very much looking forward to the gallery!

Oh, okay, here are some pics for you!
As I said, I don't own G1 Shocky. I have this grey one with the red translucent plastic, which I think is from Radio Shack as the Astro Magnum pics I see online all had clear plastic. So, here are a bunch of pics with "dead" G1 Shockwave.![]()
*Snipped pictures*
So, thanks for reading! If you have this guy on the way, I think you will not be disappointed! Personally, I cannot wait to see Ryan give this guy the Seibertron photo shoot treatment. Do you have G1 Shocky, Ryan? I think there can be some great pics there.
One last post script. Shocky would be huge for a Classics collection, unless the most recent Leader Megs and Starscream are used. Then he should fit in nicely. I may take some pics with some Classics/Generations figures later this weekend. I remember Counterpunch mentioning using MP in that collection...
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Bingo. They take the "cartoon" accuracy to a stupid level. Sometimes common sense should kick in. My wife laughed when I showed her Masterpiece Shockwave after I showed her the original G1 Shockwave.

Before I even said a word, when my girlfiend first saw Shockwave out of the box she said, "that's a very lavender toy". They're getting way too literal with the cartoon appearances. You can't take an eye-dropper to the cartoon frame and say, "yep, this is the color he's supposed to be". If you did that on Ramjet, his black parts would be 25% grey. Darker colors were almost always drawn lighter in the cartoon, or else they wouldn't show up. Takara-Tomy needs to be reminded that the characters on screen were most-often intended to represent the toys, only simplified. And that some things just don't translate.
What was chrome and metal on the G1 Shockwave toy should not be matte grey plastic on the Masterpiece anymore than a V 2.0 Masterpiece Megatron should be white plastic with a dark grey crotch.

Well it makes some figures look cheap.
Shockwaves design in the cartoon and G1 toy both look closely similar. I don't mind the purple myself, as the color is what people seem to be complaining about.
I love my mp Ironhide, but if Takara couldn't get the chest cartoon accurate. Than I feel like they should have made his legs a Lil more detailed to match the releastic chest. His legs look too plain too me, especially the thighs.

Because it's not usually accurate. They'll find a screen shot or episode and run with it. G1 wasn't always consistent. Also sometimes what looks OK on screen might not translate as well as a toy. The cartoon models were also much more simplistic than the toys themselves. Hot Rod with a dark border around his chest flame is just silly looking where they should have gone with something more like his G1 toy. It just looks out of place on a Masterpiece style toy, same with a lighter purple on a Masterpiece Shockwave.
Not to mention how all over the board the G1 cartoon was with shades of purple on Shockwave to begin with.

All those shades of purple look the same to me.

It's also important to remember that every one of those frames from the cartoon was attempting to portray the toy - to varying degrees of success. So in this case, they should have just gone back to the orignal toy for reference or found a happy medium between the two.
His pinkish hands in the cartoon doesn't mean Shockwave has solid pinkish hands; that was the animators attempting to portray the toy's transparent purple hands in cartoon form. The fact that Takara-Tomy felt compelled to mold and include solid pinkish hands with this release shows they've gone over the deep end.
That'd be like giving MP-10 solid baby blue plastic for windows instead of transparent glass.

I received my MP-29 today, and I'm generally pleased with it. The purple color is actually just a shade darker than Takara's D-62S "Anime" Galvatron, and I'm actually fine with the color. It would've been nice if the gray parts would've been colored silver instead, but I'll live with it. The transformation is very nice, and I found it pretty intuitive, as I successfully transformed him without referring to the instruction sheet once. I'm glad to be able to retire my G1 Shockwave from my MP shelf (it's a repaired junker I picked up a few years back).
My one major issue, though, is with the decals. Including the animation-style symbols was just a dumb idea, and aside from that, I just simply couldn't get the symbols lined up properly. They stick very well, but too well; I let go of one symbol just a bit too soon before it was fully positioned, and it fell flat against the arm before I could catch it, resulting in lopsided symbols. So, I just decided to forget it, pulled them off, and ordered some faction symbols from Replolabels and will try again. Really, though, TakaraTomy should've just stuck with tampographed symbols. I really hope this isn't a trend on future MPs.

I get what you guys are saying about the purple. In the lighting in my basement, it isn't quite so lavender-ish. Maybe it's my LED lighting. I just really like this shade of purple. I like the darker like you are talking about, and that would have been my preference. I just like this too. And, as Shegotron said, it is definitely much better than Lilac G1 Galvatron re-issue.
At any rate, here are some more pics for you all! Counterpunch mentioned Classics/Generations:

"Optimus Prime, come back after you eat some cyber-spinach or something."

"I am still not impressed, Optimus."
"Maybe I need some Apex Armor or something..."
"What is this 'Apex' you speak of?"

"Megatron, I think this is a good size for you and me. What do you think, Skaywarp?"

"I think you should ask Scrapper."

"This is a little big for my taste. On the other hand, you know what they say, Reflector adds like ten astro-pounds. Still, it might be a good idea to lay off the energon-burgers. Perhaps you should switch to some cyber-spinach..."
"Nice, Scrapper. I think I need a ride out of here, back to Cybertron. Starscream?"

Okay, I hope you like this one! I sacrificed my comic for this shot. (Too late for an April Fools joke?") [Edit: little better pose now, Shocky is tipped more forward, making the cutout look more like a shadow. I won't tell you how many pictures and pose fiddling I did to get this...

TF source got the Asian market version in with the coin. I ordered it from there, hopefully I get it relatively quick since I went with expedited shipping. I like the color and think we'll see a darker version released down the line. Maybe go for the trifecta and get a gray one as well, if Takara can do it.

I feel like this is all part of the scheme. Come out with an OK color scheme first, do the "G1" toy accurate version later as MP-29T or MP-29G or whatever odd number scheme they come up with, and then do a convention exclusive gray "Shackwave" version later down the road. Do the least desirable color scheme first, and then go from there because people will buy the toy because it's a new mold. It seems like this is common practice these days unfortunately.

I don't understand why they didn't simply tampograph the classic symbols on, and included the Sunbow insignias as stickers in case anyone wanted to apply those over the tampos.
