I'm going to be more... diplomatic... and say that Phloegus is really, really unappealing to me in all 3 modes. Seriously, it had 3 opportunities to impress me, but all 3 struck out.

I really prefer the beast modes in Ares to what MMC has done.
It is s till the size issue between the figs that is throwing me.

I really prefer what MMC did, making the limbs a bit bigger and the torso a bit smaller to have the 5 characters be much closer in size between each other.

MMC still wins on the detailing side too, but this would have been a much closer race for my dollars if TFC had sized the guys the other way.

If I had infinite money, I'd be getting both.

im enjoying the cat mode a lot too. dont know why theres such a hate on for these guys. different atheatics comes down to preferability, but the only real knock against this so far are the sizes. which i can let go of since they look great and will most likely remain combined on my shelf.

i think some people are on MMC payroll because why else go out of your way to constantly and repeatedly bash something when there is another choice that you like? just, you know, go get the other one if you don't like this.....

I think that's sort of naive...

A lot of it is the nature of gradual reveals and staggered releases. Each new reveal gives haters (like me!

) another opportunity to express their preference.

On the MMC Bandwagon maybe, but definitely not their payroll. (lol I wish) I just didn’t think we needed a 3rd Predaking. It seems they just shot these molds out of their ass to compete with MMC/UT. I supported Hercules, Devastator, and Ill most likely get their Defensor when all 5 figures are available as a set. But I can’t support this one. How the hell are you gonna have an MP scale Razorclaw with 4 little limbs ? Predaking was not a scramble city combiner in either the cartoon or the original toy.

I'm not buying it for G1 cartoon accuracy or toy accuracy. In fact, it's because it's so different and stylized that I picked this one over MMC's and UT's offerings. MMC's look like crap in both bot and beast modes (but especially beast modes) and UT's looks a bit too generic (although I actually think their set looks better than MMC's in a lot of ways).

That Razorclaw is definitely huge, but it would only bother me if I were displaying them in bot mode, which is the one mode I won't be displaying them in. I think the size difference actually works really well for the other modes, especially the combined mode. It makes for really nice proportions.

They had iGear's Shark set of 3 on sale for $99.99 the other day as a 1-day incentive, and I definitely considered it. Ultimately decided not too.

I'm happy with the 2 sets of UT Sharkies I already have, and decided not to overdo it. I have the black one on preorder (my Sharkies need a unique leader, after all), but I think that's all I need as far as this mold goes.

If they are resurrecting 2 projects long thought dead, they may need funds from another source.

I'm not worried about it. TFC has always juggled multiple projects so it's pretty much par for the course for them. It is likely that Ares isn't selling that well however given that the overall consensus seems to be that most are going with MMC.

To me this set has "giftset" written all over it. I already have UT's Warlord, I'm invested in MMC's Feral Rex. But the thing that set those two apart is that they showed us their hands up front. Beast modes, Robot modes, combined mode.

Back when they were the only one on the market doing these large gestalt toys the staggered news worked fine, but open market competition is a bad place to keep secrets about you product. I mean, the second piece is about to come out and we still haven't seen the whole thing together? Honestly.

But yeah. I'll wait until the whole thing is available.

We've seen what the combined mode looks like (or a rough, mirrored estimation) - is that what you mean?
