I've felt the same way about Matt Smith, but the last two episodes where the stories were more centred around him and a lot less Amy, he really shone through. The potential is there, he just needs the right (or no) assistant.

I could dig a season of no assistant.
I was anti Matt Smith too, but unlike David Tennant, I feel that Matt Smith does a better job of showing the Doctor's age. There are moments when you can see the "old man" in the 11th Doctor's eyes. The 10th Doctor was usually running 100 miles a second and was with companions that would quell his darker nature.
However, the 10th Doctor will always be my favorite.

I always thought William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton did much better "old" Doctors.

Reading the wiki entry for the episode, and seeing the comments posted here (especially Sriker's) have convinced me that seeing this episode isn't exatly essential. Would anyone else agree with that?

If you ask me, that makes it even worse. I mean, yeah, Nicholas Courtney died, and it's sad and everything, but did they really have to acknowledge it in-universe? I mean, Jacqueline Hill's been dead for over a decade and a half, yet according to SJA, Barbara Wright is still alive and well. No reason to write the character out just cause the actor died.
Maybe I'm being cynical, I dunno. I still can't bring myself to watch it, out of fear of confirming my low expectations.

Well, I doubt Barbara and Ian are ever gonna return, even for the fiftieth anniversary. The Brigadier...
Besides, there is no one better to make the man who never stops running stop running. No one else could've gotten that reaction from the Doc.

Re: The Dr Who (and spin-offs) Thread
The thing that strikes me is that 2 years running Moffet has pretty much just deferred the finale for a year. Also, now that we know the question I'm thinking that speculation from last year about where the 11th Doctor's story arc is going may have been spot on. My thought on the answer? Omega.

I suppose its a means of insuring buildup to the season premiere. Of course, since we don't know when that is...

Are we even sure there's going to be a full season next year? Apparently Moffet was at least considering just doing a special for the half centinary.

They recently announced that there isn't going to be a series next year, and that they were going to wait for 2013 to do...something.

Re: The Dr Who (and spin-offs) Thread
I thought Moffat said in an interview that of course there was going to a new season next year, with the popularity of the show, especially internationally, as high as it currently is, it would be foolish to do otherwise. Of course, I have no idea where I read this, so I can't cite anything. Heck, I'm probably misremembering.

If anyone's at all interested, someone did a pretty cool anime-style Doctor Who using many of the Anime Tropes and Doctor Who tropes. Sadly it's not a full episode, but I wish it were:

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

I finally got my hands on Series Six, and boy, am I disappointed.
I can't quite place my finger on it, but it just doesn't feel like the 9th-10th Doctor episodes did.
I really hope that some of the Series 7 episodes will have less earth in them, too. Why can't the Doctor manage to get outside of the UK more than half of each season? (Of course, budget makes a big difference, but it makes for an annoying trend of UK-ness for someone who travels throughout all of time and space)
Still, there were some pretty good episodes, like Closing Time.

What recent decision of Hasbro can't the above picture apply to?

Because it's a UK show primarily aimed at a UK audience ...

Maybe because Series 1 through Four didn't have Moffat's Personal Mary Sue infesting the show for half the broadcast.

Okay, here's a question for all. Somehow the gods have placed YOU in charge for the 2013 series. The big one, the 5-0. You have unlimited control within the planes of this dimension. Want Eccleston back? Done! But you can't resurrect those who have passed on. You can recast if you'd like, though.
So, what do you do?

Looks like Hollywood's taken up Doctor Who and is making it into a feature length film.
Considering that many of the two-parters have been (IMO) pretty epic in their own way, I wonder how it'll turn out.

Doesn't matter how good the two-parters or four-parters or five-parters ... over even six-parters (well except Trial of a Time Lord) ... the tv series is irrelevant.
