The future of Classics/Generations?
- Motto: "Can you change the radio to KZUM, please?"

It occurred to me the other night that my Classics collection is probably worth quite a bit. I checked eBay for used versions of each figure and adjusted for wear of quality and it clocked in at over 2000. If the future of this line is going to be these TFCC Exclusives (Breakdown, Circuit, Scourge) then I think I may have to give it up.
Where do people think this line is going to go? I'm excited for the Asia Exclusives appearing domestically, but I think I'll only stick with it if we're going to be seeing new molds....

I'm sure it'll continue with figures that will fit in with what we're used to at some point in the future. Whenever that is though... only Hasbro knows for sure.

Hasbro said directly they have 40 generations figures lined up for 2013. There's got to be something there that fits in.
With that said I don't follow the train of thought of selling something because no more figures will fit in. Regardless of what gets made later the classic figures will still be in high demand because they are quite good. And still be priced high in the secondary market. In fact I think classics will just continue to become more and more desirable as time goes on. So if anything you should be hanging on to them rather than getting rid of them regardless of what happens.

Surely it will increase as time goes by. Just seeing how much Classics Silverstreak is worth after how many were on the shelves in my area is a great indicator of that. I'm just at a point in my life where there are a lot of things I need to buy (schooling, a reliable car to get to school, an engagement ring etc.) I'd also love to start collecting the Masterpiece line.
So it's certainly not because there may not be figures for the line down the road. It's just that... If there was a good stopping place for me... It's probably now...

I think the FOC figures are the 40 new Generations toys.

It's not 2013, sir. But then this IS Hasbro we're talking about.

Re: The future of Classics/Generations?
Do we have the actual Hasbro quote on that 40 Generations tidbit? I have a terrible feeling it's more like "nearly 40 Generations by the end of 2013, starting NOW with FoC Wave 1".
The "Classic" style will turn up again sooner or later, though with FoC being the main focus I don't think we'll be seeing it for a while (certainly not in 2012). I'm kinda surprised with Scourge and Depth Charge being club exclusives as it seemed like those molds were designed with those characters in mind (club/convention exclusives always struck me more as making do with what they got), though I still don't think the exclusives are meant to "replace" Classic-style Generations. Same for the "Asia-exclusive GDO" figures.

This seems as good as any time for me to ask this: What does GDO stand for? I can guess at least that the "G" is for Generations, but I don't know how "DO" indicates the initially Asian market exclusivity of these figures.

I want to see 2013 bring in a chunk of new classics/generation figures in the same size and quality were used to , i know hasbro doesn't care about scale much but to see the classics line shrink could possibly have me thinking twice about going on with the line.
FOC Ultra magnus comes to mind fair enough he's in foc line smaller figures but why give him a deluxe he should have been a voyager i hate the thought of having the classics line ruined by scale issues my worst fear and best example they all turn out like shockwave .
If the foc line is the start of the 2013 40 and iv'e counted them up correct then it's minus 17 all ready and if the wreckers go to retail 22 and if they were crazy enough to include the asia exclusives 38
but i'm sure this won't be how they pull it off right ?

Please let the classic deluxe molds stay decently sized. A good example of deluxe size is Drift...

They'll release 40 new Classics figures. Half of them will be voyagers. Voyagers will be the same size is deluxes were a few years ago. We'll be paying 23+ for decent size deluxes.

Why not take advantage of the smaller size and release short characters like Rattrap, Cybertron Ransack, the Minibots, Gobots, etc.? When life gives you lemons...

The size reduction has NOT gotten that bad, yet. Not Voyager = Deluxe bad.

I wish I could call this into question, but I can't.
I have a bad feeling about the new C/G we'll be getting... if at all.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Re: The future of Classics/Generations?
Would it be better or worse if the currently announced FOC, formerly Asia exclusive and the like were counted against the supposed 40 new figures, or if those 40 new figures were announced tomorrow, as all being variants of Bumblebee?

Being sick of Bumblebee doesn't mean we won't get a Shadow Strike Classics Bee.

indeed, it is a ridiculous question.
now, a less ridiculous one: Which of those two scenarios is more likely?
edit: Of course, I'd love to be proved wrong and for Hasbro to unveil 40 new Generations toys, all brand new molds of characters we've been begging for (or almost all new, they can chuck in the DOTM Deluxes that never got released in the US) and I'll be over the moon. I just don't think it's all that likely.
Granted, I did say something about me not thinking it likely Hasbro was going to visit the concept of combiner teams in a main line any time soon, and a few days later FOC Bruticus was revealed...so there is hope.

If i was to put money on one thing it's gonna be that were not gonna be overwhelmed with 16 or 17 new classics figures like the AE(new repaints) & FOC lines i imagine we would get like 6 and that's it, if that was the case I'd be happy with 2 voyagers & 4 deluxe .
I can't really grumble with foc i mean at least were getting A Blaster , Soundblaster , Grimlock and the Combaticons(individual figures) i do wish they were in the classics style of course but this will be it for those characters now hasbro will just say they have made one whats the point in doing it again , Same goes for springer , Ultra magnus(especially with 2 on the go) and Arcee (Prime).
