The official Classics Minor Mods Thread.
I'd've gone with a much darker grey if I were you; G1 Wildrider's like a dark charcoal colour, almost black. How about doing the thighs silver and the tops of the forearms red, since they don't need to be visible in car mode? Good distribution of colours otherwise, mind.
Are you going to get rid of that spoiler bit, though? It looks really odd sticking out like that, like he can't decide whether he wants a spoiler or not. The stump's only held in with a screw.

This might be a bit OT to the thread, but I had an idea for the bashers working with classics bee. How hard would it be to do a trunk as chest mod on him? I figure you chop the rear roof down to about the spoiler then attach it to the main roof so it flips over with it during transformation. Flip his head around and add a swivel waist and you'd have a little better aproximation of the hood as chest G1 cars.
I don't know if the way the trunk is attached would make it harder than I think. Just throwing it out there if anyone wants to have a look at it.

am using a grey and Silver to break up parts hes not complety finished yet at the moment not sure on a Chest mod for the bumblee bee yet could be worth a try. Am trying also to work out a mod to the classic hot rod so the front goes forward like on jazz which would mean cutting away the hollow section under the bonnet to oadd a stryene tab.

Not really. You could probably get the back end to work as a chest, although I'd say it'd be easier to take a section out of the rear roof rather than the whole rear, so the fig's kind of got a porthole to look out of, if that makes sense. But the real problem you'd have is that the head is jointed toward its back, so when you turn the head backwards, its chin is so far forwards that the central hinge (that the chest, back and head are all attached to) would interfere, meaning he's permanently looking up. You might be able to get round it, but it wouldn't be a simple mod like Alt Sideswipe or anything.

I forgot about his arms too. I'm sure someone could pull it off, but looks like it would take alot more than a screwdriver and a minor cut.
Probably be just as easy to reshell a classics bumble bee, if you could find the right scale kit.
*Goes back to fiddling with his alts*

My take on Classics Thundercracker.
First, I have to give total credit to Thundercracker from TFW2005 for the main paint scheme. I used the same two primary Tamiya colors that he did on his--and his came out so well that it even shifted my decision from painting him in cartoon colors to these instead. (and I really was leaning more towards cartoon-scheme at the time)
His TC can be found here:
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=129002
Anyway, here's my take. This is also posted at TFW2005:

weird pose, but you get the point.

I decided with this one to try and paint the pistons on his legs to make them stand out. I think they came out rather nice.

As with Starscream, I painted the belt on his (inner)sides to match the front. For some reason, I painted the panels his arms are attached to in blue. I'll probably go back and paint them silver at some point.
I decided to paint the 'panel' on the cannons in silver the same as Skywarp. Black just wasn't going to show up as well. The missile is in black, however, just to break up the color somewhat.

Unlike with Starscream, I painted Thundercracker's face this time around. The normal light gray of the toy had no place with the new colorscheme, so I couldn't get around it this time. But it definitely came out great.

As I was doing TC, I decided Skywarp needed his 'sides' done up to match the other two Seekers. I actually left his shoulder panels in black on purpose, as they tend to match the side of the upper/front portion of his vents (Seen in the second half of the pic).

Jet mode. The red stripes are hand-painted. I decided on a different pattern than his norm, and while I debated the white striping to go with it, I opted against it in the end. I don't think I could have hand-painted clean white stripes that would have been even with the red ones.

All of my rear shots came out fuzzy. This was the best one, sadly. Really, you just need to see that the thrusters are in black, same as the original toy.

Side shot.

Long shot of the group.

And respective jet modes.
Well, there you go.

I like the new wing stripes. Interesting takes on some things like the Skywarp like missile and launcher coloring. I gotta say, I prefer the other guy's darker , more saturated orange Skywarp canopy and the G1-toy-like blue paint. I would probably combine the two. I also think the red spots inside the silver border on the blue knees looks a little odd, like bulls-eyes.
Actually, I'm tempted to try and figure out a color scheme that would work from Armada Thundercracker. I tried it once, but it looks kind of ugly. Back to the drawing board.
I gotta learn how to paint. I wonder if these paints can be found up here in Canada.

To be honest, I wanted to paint those spots red, but I don't think they'd show up as well without a silver bordering. I may try and widen the red a little, but that's about the look I wanted.
As for the canopy, yeah, I think Skywarp's canopy is a better dark-orange coloring too. But I only have one, and it's staying with Skywarp. I MAY go back and paint the frame in black...but I'm debating that. I like it in silver just the same.

Nice work on TC there, I think Skywarp's now the one that looks least good... I hate that bright pinkish colour they used for his secondary colour.
Question: How are you (if at all) getting round getting round the scraping issue from the little nubs on the wings and tail? Personally I'm filing off mine, but I'm curious as to how others are doing it.

Onslaught's a good thought as well. Either way works.
The nubs on the inside of the wings I've left alone. They don't seem to bother the paint all that much. The ones on the tail/rudder/fins tend to do some damage, so I just sanded those all the way down. I have to align them by hand, but since I tend to lean them back to make better 'heels' in bot mode, that's not such a big deal.

Anyways, Mudflap has the right color for Hotspot already. Need a mouthplate and a way to make him combine with his fellow teamates and that's it.
