Geez. Can you talk to the apartment people and break the lease due to a lack of security or something? Like don't they have some responsibility for not securing the premesis?

Yeah, naturally whoever you're renting from should be your first port of call for that.

Man, that's awful. Hopefully your insurance will spring for anything you can't retrieve, but even so, that doesn't compensate for the stress. Plus I imagine of some of the stuff (especially the jewellery) had a lot of sentimental value. Good luck, mate, I hope they catch the gits that did it, and maybe even get some/all of your stuff back.

I'd talk to the leasing agents in you complex and tell them (if you haven't already) that you've been robbed and ask them their policy on that matters. jeez that sucks man. I've been robbed too and it's an awful feeling, and it doesn't exactly go away overnight.

Kinda cool they left the TF's though, in my experience a lot of times thieves will break what they don't steal. So there's that. At least you didn't come home to find all your stuff missing AND a pile of stomped robot kibble.

It's doubtful but maybe the cops will find something. I'd definetely start checking all the local pawn shops, gamestops, ebgames, etc. for your stuff. First thing they're going to do is pawn the stuff.

Hope you find them and skin them alive.

I once read that most professional thieves won't steal displayed collectibles because they are fragile and often have small, loose accessories, thereby making them a risk to move in a hurry while keeping their value.

I agree with looking into building members first...you'd be surprised how often people are robbed by their neighbors. This doesn't seem like a random invasion; someone had an idea of what you had in there, and knew your routine enough to be comfortable going in. As said, definitely get a list of the missing items out to every pawn shop and game shop in your area. They may even forward the information some just-out-of-area stores if you ask them.

I would think that your landlord would be willing to work with you on this. As long as you've been a good tenant and pay the rent on time, they should be willing to understand how you feel.

Sorry to hear that your stuff got ripped off CP. It's not fun having
stuff stolen from you. Only things I'd recommend has been mentioned before, but I'll post them anyways:

• Call Police and report the crime. You'll probably have
to do this if you have insurance.
• Call property management and let them know
your place was broken into. They might be responsible
for getting the door fixed. If they do, make sure they
install a deadbolt.
• Hopefully your complex has security cameras
that work so they might be able to see who
took your stuff.
• If you don't have renters insurance, get it.
It only costs $100-200 a year to protect
your stuff. So if the neighbor 3 doors from you
burns the entire complex down or the moron above
you forgets to turn off the tub before he goes to
work and floods your place, then you are covered.

As to getting out of your lease, that will probably be tricky.
If there have been numerous break-ins in the complex
recently; if the bldg. management is slow in repairing
security gates, security cameras, etc; then you might be
able to say that the property management/owners aren't
doing enough to protect the building's tennants. However,
If yours was the only place in your neighborhood that was
broken into in the past few years then you probably won't
be able to get out of it. Best bet is to go over your lease
and possibly get a lawyer involved to see what is required
in your city/state to be able to break it and get your deposit
back.

I suppose it's a small consolation that they didn't take all of your transformers too. I guess it'd be hard to walk out of your home carrying THAT many figures

Damn CP, sorry to hear that! I just got home from getting surgery done on my ankle, and this was one of the last things I would have expected to see on the forums.

I know it's not a pleasant thought, but look at ANYONE who has been in your apartment. There's a good chance that someone wanted those Marvel figures and stole the other stuff to cover up their motive.

I'd also watch ebay too. If they didn't want the figures for themselves, then they probably know their value and will try and sell them online.

To be brutally honest, 99% of criminals are idiots and end up giving themselves away unintentionally. So just be on the look out.

I tell you this...in some ways, it's liberating not to have some of this stuff anymore. I know that sounds odd, but it's the best outlook I have right now.

I feel like Jack in Fight Club, which I'd watch of course...but for the lack of tv and dvds.

having your stuff stolen is bad enough , but when it's done by a family relative thats is when it hurts even more.

between my brother and myself we happen to actually own our mothers house and yet that fact did not stop my asshole stepfather from stealing and destroying my transformers and Zoids collection

long story short the guy just could not except for a fact that i as a responsible adult have an interest in the stuff and this is coming from someone who happens to have a well paying job as an acountant mind you

from what i remember of it the bastard walked away with a busted jaw and a broken nose.

This sucks..
