I'm not sure about Abominus. A lot of the combiners got the major upgrades they deserved, and Abominus is the 2nd best combiner we got behind Defensor (to me, suck it). And I do agree on Battletrap. There were many that really got the updates they deserved.
I almost feel by this point you could rank the combiners by best update. We got all 5 season 1+2 combiners, the 3 season 3 combiners, and an RiD Ruination. So we have plenty of combiner updates that could be ranked.

But even then, aside from Kup in 5th place, I dont think anything came out which dethrones the rest. What do you guys think?
If the list were to be redone today, what would be diffferent?
Removing the MPs since its their shtick to be better than anything else, I'd say the Prime Wars Trilogy gave us at least Triggerhappy, and Blurr Updates that are worth mentioning.
There's also the very good Jumpstarter updates.
And I would argue Siege Magnus is going to want a word with you about being one of the better updates to G1 Magnus in a while that is not an MP.
Yeah I think its best we wait. OR we could leave this list be and then make eventually 2 new ones:
Best Updates from Prime Wars Trilogy and Best Updates from WFC trilogy.
We could start working on that first one now. I have a question for you D-Max, what do we do with Abominus. I agree he's awesome but he is also several toys in one so maybe not as fair when compairing to Trigerhappy. We could instead say Blot (since he is the best) and the terrorcons. Like that evn though we mention them all, at least we declare a winner that can stand to par with anyone else on the list alone.
So Blot and the terrorcons, the jumpstarters, Blurr (Legends version), Trigerhappy and... Sky Shadow? Or Trypticon? Or Battletrap? Anyways whoever gets left out of those last 3 I mentioned become the honourable mentions.
And Overcracker, for lists looking at things in general, I do include MPs, exactly for the reason you say, that they should be better. But the deal is they are not always better. The best Hot Rod toy out there is not an MP, for instance, and neither is the best Movie Optimus toy. There are some toys out there which equal MPs in ingenuity of design at a fraction of the cost (Prime line and Animated line are good examples), making consumers get more bang for their buck. By putting MPs on its own standard, we lose track of how good other toys can measure up to them and how much some MPs have simply not cut it. So for all these reasons, I feel MPs should never be ignored.
I agree MPs should not be ignored, but also should be weighed a bit differently than regular releases. No matter how good a regular deluxe or voyager is in its own right, its hard pressed to compete with what an MP can be since its afforded more budget and development resources.
Yes, MPs have been known to drop the ball, but even then they end up having some redeeming qualities that still put them above and over regular figures.
Even MP-05 with all its many issues is still a better representation of G1 Megs, than any other Megs we had until MP-36. So its kind of unfair to judge retail figures alongside MPs unless you give them a bit of a, to use a golfing term, handicap. CW-Megs is a top notch Megatron with a very nice tank mode. It loses points for not being a gun. And not being lavishly G1 in form. But in the context of retail figures is still better than Classics Megatron even though he does turn into a gun.
There's more merit in getting a G1 update right with price point and budget constraints, than there is when you can just set any price you want and have the budget accordingly. *cough* MP-43 *cough*
