Transformers - GI Joe question

Postby Ninjagazz » Sun Jan 28, 2007 8:57 pm

Was thinking about buying some G.I joe vehicles and converting them into transformers charaters, any suggestions on which vehicles would be best suited to which character? or links similar bashes for reference either based on the toys or tf/gijoe comics

got to do some research, I thought here would be a good place to ask

I apologise if this topic has been posted, I cant claim to have read all the forums but I did look and couldnt find it

Well you could always use the TF vs GI Joe comics for inspiration. I think a Starscream Nightraven would rock myself. I'm jsut not willing to spend the money for the Nightraven right now.

I think it was GIJoe/ Transformers volume 1 by devils due that did the actual cobra vehicals into TFs. All the other cross over stuff had them transform into non GIJoe specific military vehicals, or just their normal G1 selves.

Here are the ones I remember most:
Ironhide as a Version 1 Hiss tank
Optimus was a Version 2 (or was it 3, which ever one was red) Hiss Tank

Sunstreaker and Sideswipe as that black cobra 4 wheel hardtop jeep lookin thing. They had different transformations for the same alt mode.

Mirage was that blue cobra motorcycle

and yea, Starscream was a sweet Nightraven

The rest I'll have to look up. In that story though, none were Joe vehicles because it was cobra that found the arc. Oh, and I remember concept sketches for Megatron being that red and black Helicopter tank of Destro's, and Optimus being that three part Joe cannon on wheels. But that series never got made.

P.S. Most GIJoe vehicles have parts made out of this rubbery plastic that is a biotch to cut through. When you work on it, make sure to either cut with a knife, long scoring process, or if you are using separating discs they NEED to be going really slow. Otherwise the plastic will melt, get all gummy, and eventually bond right back together where it should be separated. In other words, the cut HAS to remain cool.
till all are one.

I think I recall, offhand, that Thundercracker and Skywarp made really cool Rattlers...

Nice, great info thanks :)

Im still not sure if I'm going to copy designs from the comics at least not for the autobots (it would be nice to have autobots as joe vehicles and decepticons as cobra vehicles) but they are a great source of ideas.
Never owned the Devils Due comic i rember seeing a few in my local comic store. there was a cool looking transformer I think it was the Cobra Stun not sure which bot either think it was Jazz, will try and find a pic.

This task may be a bit out of my league so I'm just gonna pick some some toys and start sketching ideas for now

thanks again for the ideas, keep em coming :)

I've come across a GI Joe Rolling Thunder at a yardsale that I haven't tried to get rid of because I saw the artist's concept for a Rolling Thunder Prime. Its just the main vehicle not much for accessories, but if anyone is interested.. I'v wondered how well it would turn out. Also considered doing this with the Dragonfly helicopter that I have.

Thats looks great TM2!
The only reason I want to go the G.I vehicle to tf route is that I want my G.I joe figures to able to drive/ride inside them.

Been sketching some ideas based on some sigma 6 vehicles (I figure they will be easier to get hold of) will post some soon when Iv'e worked out the transformations a little better.

I've been pondering customs based on a TFs/GIJoe crossover theme for the past week or so. I'm currently thinking of having Cyclonus transform into a Python Conquest. Even though the 3rd season was pretty cheesy, I thought the alt mode fit, Cyclonus would be better suited as a Cobra vehicle in my mind, and the "snakeskin" pattern seemed pretty fun.

I've also been wanting to look at that WW2 set comic crossover to see what they did there. The idea of a triple-theme TF/GIJoe/WW2 custom just sounds orgasmic.

The Prime and Megatron pics do look pretty cool. I don't think a diff color scheme is all that bad if the tones are still right and the other identifying characteristics are still physically there. For instance, HoS Megatron is almost entirely black but still looks like Megatron.
