Possible spoilers ahead...
I covered the IDW/Hasbro panel at Comic-Con. Other than the Furman/Wildman news, the other shocking news was #125 was entitled The Death of Optimus Prime.
This isn't the first time Prime has died in the Transformers franchise but since Comic-Con, my mind has been running with the endless possibilities for the IDW universe.
For those who have been reading the ongoing series, Bumblebee has been assigned to be Autobot leader. However, Prime seems to override his decision and Autobots still look up to him. What's the point of making Bumblebee leader if he doesn't have true responsibilities? Perhaps this is the point. Maybe this is the course of Bumblebee's journey, Bumblebee has to rise up to the occasion when Optimus is gone.
The other thing that pops to mind is Rodimus and The Matrix. The recent issues have made it a point that Optimus may not want the Matrix anymore. He even asks Rodimus how it felt when he wore the Matrix. Rodimus responded that it was a wonderful feeling. Optimus hints that he hasn't felt that way with the Matrix in a long time if ever.
My thoughts? There will be two Primes when Optimus dies: Rodimus Prime leading a space/Cybertron Autobot fraction and Bumblebee Prime leading an Earth fraction (I can't come up with a catchier name than Bumblebee Prime). This reminds me of the current situation with the X-Men books. The team will be split into two series: Cyclops will lead a team in Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine will lead his own in a book called Wolverine & The X-Men.
The ongoing title Robots in Disguise lends itself to be an Earth bound book. More Than Meets the Eye could be the space book.
Thoughts, opinions, theories?
