What to do on a friday night without alcohol

Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

Being quite drunk amongst friends who are also quite drunk = awesome time... for me anyway.

Talking bs, watching a good game of football (the real version), playing cards, retelling stories from our high school time etc etc

It's my favorite way to spend the weekend. I don't need alcohol to have fun (we sometimes -albeit rarely :P - have fun without). I just like to drink cause it tastes good and adds fun to most situations.

Moderation? Yeah, of course. Getting extremely pissed? Meh, it happens and most of the time your friends will get a good laugh out of it.

Hangovers? Meh! After a couple of weekends they won't bother you anymore!

Alcohol is all fun and games for a while. Ask the soldiers around here that enjoy a good time on the weekends. Then ask them about their pending DUI charges. Or we can ask my grandpa about how 40 years of alcohol helped him out...oh wait, we can't. He's dead. Yeah, the kidneys don't really like alcohol, and sometimes drinking yourself into obvlivion masks the stage four cancer you've got going on in your kidneys.

If crack should be illegal, so should booze! Alcohol is the worst drug out there!

I wanted to say the EXACT same thing, but was afraid of getting flamed...again.

They make harmless substances that can actually improve your health like weed illigal, yet they make something as bad as alcohol, something that causes more deaths, more violence, and more crime, totally legal.

Its utter BS if you ask me. Society sucks.

The moderate consumption of alcohol, including beer, has been associated with a decreased risk of cardiac disease, stroke and cognitive decline.

Brewer's yeast is known to be a rich source of nutrients; therefore, as expected, beer can contain significant amounts of nutrients, including magnesium, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, and B vitamins. In fact, beer is sometimes referred to as "liquid bread". Some sources maintain that filtered beer loses much of its nutrition.

A 2005 Japanese study found that low alcohol beer may possess strong anti-cancer properties.[33] Another study found nonalcoholic beer to mirror the cardiovascular benefits associated with moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages. However, much research suggests that the primary health benefit from alcoholic beverages comes from the alcohol they contain.

Population studies have observed a J curve association between wine consumption and the risk of heart disease. This means that abstainers and heavy drinkers have an elevated risk, whilst moderate drinkers have a lower risk.

Population studies have also found that moderate consumption of other alcoholic beverages may be cardioprotective, though the association is considerably stronger for wine. These studies have found a protective effect from both red wine as well as white wine, though evidence from laboratory studies suggests that red wine may possess superior health benefits including prevention of cancer due to the fact red wine contains more polyphenols than white wine due to the production process.

So... -as with weed- moderation with alcohol can be good for you as well. Besides weed ain't harmless either. I've got a few friends who are seriously addicted and smoking so much weed doesn't do them very good, I can tell. (And don't say it isn't addictive, thats bullcrap. Weed is highly mentally addictive).

There's a reason for the term "Burn Out" as well.

No mind altering drug or substance comes without danger.

I just don't get why people feel the need to do that crap to themselves

I think healthy food choices and exercise will do a lot more for you than beer and wine anyday. Oh well, any excuse to be able to drink.

If you have problems, wallowing away in alcohol is no way to solve them. It just adds to your problems. It pisses me off to see people that have an otherwise decent life create issues for themselves by abusing alcohol or drugs. Nevermind being an adult and working things out yourself or being proactive in creating a good life for yourself; just booze it up and forget all your problems. Geez.

Eh, my life has been ****.

Abused mentally and physical, homeless a few times.

Pretty much poor my entire life.

And I don't need drugs or alcohol to "help"

So anyone that uses that as an excuse is really stupid

I know, i wasnt saying it was a justifiable excuse, but people do use it as one.

I do know that certain drugs can make you feel better, and some even have medicinal properties (namely weed, and the others im talking about are prescription meds) but alchohol really isnt an excuse in any case.

My life aint exactly been full of rainbows and candy and puppydogs either, but i dont need alcohol to feel better or have a good time either.

Intersting note, vodka comes from the Russian voda, which also means the same.

And I find alcohol a great help at times, as I've always had trouble sleeping when I'm hitting a rough patch, which is alarmingly often. A case of beer or a few Powers & browns later, I'm a lot less agitated.

I think half of people's problems are their own doing. Some people don't want to work, or don't have the ambition to do better in their careers. Some use drugs and alcohol for their "problems", only creating more in the process. Many of the most common diseases are from people's own lifestyles. Some people do indeed get the short end of the stick, but you can still have a good attitude and refuse to suffer (well, most people, anyway). I have scraped together change to pay the rent or buy baby formula, and could barely keep money in my bank account to cover checks I wrote out for bills. I buried my first love when I was 17. I have lived in a tiny room with no money, no food, no nothing. But I decided to get my life together. I could've just farted my life away and I didn't. Now my life has meaning and direction. Hard work and dedication have brought me to where I am. And I definitely don't have any disgusting vices like drugs or booze bringing me down.

I have no problem with my work ethic, it's pretty good. I mean, when I was at school I was a complete slacker, but at work I was very dedicated. I'll get far enough for me, because I know I've the ability to force myself to do so. But that doesn't mean everything else goes just as swimmingly, though.

No, but channeling your anger or energy into something constructive will alleviate a lot of frustration or whatever. My husband is often gone because of the army (he's been gone almost a month now and won't be back til mid-Oct) and instead of being depressed about it or doing something dumb like cheating, I find things to do and keep myself busy. Also, I've learned to be a stronger person emotionally. I'm not an emotional nutball anymore. :)

Well, if they are making money, perhaps. Most artists need a job to supplement their incomes....

I'm about to become a half owner in an established business. Can you guess what my last job was? (you better not say stripper!) I have a lot of ambition and demand a lot from myself. I won't let anything bring my down.

Very close. I worked at Subway, making sammiches for grumpy people. Quite a career leap. I believed that I could do it (plus I've helped out in other family businesses) so I did it. I refuse to work in a low wage job again. Plus I aint hot enough for burlesque.

You own a business, but you don't own a mirror. I like subway, it's the only fast food place I'll eat from. Meatball marinara for the win. I plan on getting into teaching (God help the kids), so I've a corporate ladder to try climbing.

Nah, the meatball is pretty bad. And it's a b*tch to make. And it more calories than a big mac. My favorite is the chicken teriaki. With lots and lots of cheese.

I considered being a kindergarten teacher. Then I had children and discovered that I don't want to be around children as a living. Plus they deserve better pay, and since it's not getting better anytime soon, I'm out. Owning a business has been a dream since I was 17. I am fortunate that I do have a couple of family members with some money and an eye for business, because without my grandmother's assistance (financial or advice) this would be much tougher.

Well, you do have to watch your girlish figure!

I don't count calories. I probably should, but I'm not going to live my life that way. Besides, I've got a man that pretty happy with a, uh...more full-figured woman.

BBWs for the win! Well, technically I'm not overweight...just pleasantly plump. There, that's it.
