I think both would have their advantages and disadvantages. Although Primal would have newer technology on the inside and is a smaller size.
Now Optimal Optimus Vs. Optimus Prime would be interesting since theyd still be in the same size class and sharing of the spark and all.
Also I moved this forum to the Transformers GD.

Even discounting the size advantage that the average Autobot has over the average Maximal the fact that Prime's a Matrix bearer should well and truly swing it.

I don't think this is a "fight" thing.'
Prime would hold the edge simply because is has the Matrix in him. Sure Primal became "optimal" because of Prime's Spark but he didn't retain that power when he put Prime's Spark back. I mean if he did he would have been able to handle Megatron a bit better when he took G1 Megatron's Spark.

Just a nitpick, but Optimal Optimus is still smaller than Optimus Prime, according the cartoon leastways. He had to use his feet thrusters to get eye level with Optimus, who was sitting.

Beast Machines Primal for the win.
In a physical confrontation, he can redirect any energry blast.
If Prime isn't careful, Primal will do one of two things:
1. Reformat his ass into a techno-organic bunny.
2. Reach inside the Matrix with his mind and shut Prime down.
Prime may have the matrix, but Primal has access to every single mystic capability on Seibertron.

Truck vs. Monkey, anything gets in front of truck going to get squashed.
Seriously now, it depends on what version of Optimus Primal we're talking about. Sure he's more technilogically advance than Optimus Prime but he's smaller and more light wieght. He allso doesn't have the Matrix.
Now if we're talking Optimal Optimus who got his power from Optimus Prime in the first place then Primal's going to be stronger. He is still alot shorter than Prime but at the same time that's the largest version of Primal.
Now what putting G1 Prime, Rodimus Prime, all 4 versions of Primal, RID Prime, Armada Prime, Energon Prime, Cybertron Prime, and Movie Prime all into a battle royal with eachother?

Prime doesn't function off the Matrix, he can survive without it anyway. He has before when both Optimus and Rodimus were around at the same time.
I still don't understand why Optimus is still Optimus but Rodimus turns back into Hot Rod without the Matrix. Only exsplination I can come up with is that Optimus was rebuilt by Alpha Trion and not reformatted by the Matrix like Hot Rod was.
Hey, here's another idea. We allready Optimus vs. Rodimus what about Orian Pax vs. Hot Rod?

Yes, I know.
But are you going to tell me, that the Matrix, which is a conduit for all sparks and Transformers life in its entirety couldn't be used both ways? Primal could lead Prime's spark into the Matrix, effectively killing him.

We could allways go this rout.
Neither one could ever win because both Prime and Primal have been killed and then brought back from the dead.

Actually Primal did retain almost all his power and new body once he returned Primes spark back to Prime, However I would still go with Prime as been the stronger of the two one due to the Matrix and second when Primal merged with Optimus Primes spark it created an imensily new and powerfull body for Primal. One would have to have immense power to be able to do that. Although merging bodies and sparks seems to boost power levels to almost limitless power as in the case of the combiners.Galvatron Prime wrote:I don't think this is a "fight" thing.'

I've got an answer to the Rodimus thing.

I think Prime would beat Primal for one important reason. Prime has alot more combat experience.
