True. The real question is not whether they should have done Trypticon instead, it's a question of when to release Trypticon relative to Utopia. Releasing Trypticon first offers an additional incentivize for people to buy Utopia later. Right now, no such incentive exists.

Plus, since HasTak Metroplex is out, MT should have pulled an MMC - when MT came out with Hyper Novae, MMC quietly pushed their Nova Prime back a bit... only to bring out prototypes about now. Enough time has passed for MMC's version to be marketable. MT should have done the same with Utopia, IMHO.

I really wish I could afford this guy, he looks so much better (IMO) than the Generations Metroplex.

Tfsource has provided the following data. http://tfsource.com/make-toys/utopia/

MT Metroplex is 42cm tall in robot mode from head to toe. Which translates to 16.5 inches.

The vehicle mode is 55cm long which translates to 21.6 inches.

Jesus, now I am torn as hell. Do I go for Hasbroplex with its sheer size, slightly cheaper price and bevvy of upgrades? Or do I go for the smaller MakeToys version with its superior poseability, higher quality and generally better aesthetics? I kinda want Metroplex to be smaller than Fortress Maximus, and I doubt we'll ever see a Fort Max bigger than the G1 toy, so this would scratch that itch well.

That said, if MakeToys ever makes a repaint of this guy as Metrotitan then I'll get that and then buy Hasbroplex as my main 'Plex.

EDIT:

Dayum, he's still pretty big.

If my funds can improve in the next few months I'll definitely be picking this up. Even though I already bought Hasbroplex and the B&A Sixgun this guy is just, in my eyes, far superior.

In the G1 Japanese continuity, 'plex got a size upgrade hence the Titan class we have now. He was always smaller than Fortmax.

But I second you.....d@ym! He sure looks purdy sweet! Ang given Maketoy's quality, it makes it a must purchase (if I had the cash)

If I thought of this as a $400 replacement for Generations Metroplex I'd have to slap myself. It's a badass looking nemesis for the Nemesis we're far more likely to get from MakeToys than we are from Hasbro.

I'd like to see some test shots of their Trypticon to decide if I want this or not.
As a stand alone, I can resist it.

Their Scorponok looks great to me, but I can argue that character as a smaller guy because of the comics, but the thought of these as a set makes them more tempting.

I'm on the fence here with this guy.

Funnily enough, my Scorponok is Cybertron Dark Scorponok (who I guess is more like Black Zarak). I got him when i was a kid and had no idea of the character's history, so to me Scorponok has always been just a large dude rather than a towering giant.

That said, one can never have too many Scorponoks. My headcanon is that Scorponok's headmaster is a "normal-sized" Scorponok (who can be represented in CHUG scale by Energon/Cybertron Scorponok) who combines with the enormous "main body" to act as like a giant suit of armour. Likewise, with Fort Max, to me "Spike" is a normal-sized Transformer who becomes a headmaster for large battle armour (Cerebros) who in turn becomes control unit/head for the veritable colossus that is Fortress Maximus (I prefer Japanese Headmaster concept where the head is the "real" Transformer and the body is just a suit).

On topic, if it weren't so expensive I'd get HAsTak Metroplex as the "main" 'Plex (complete with addons of course) and 3 Utopias as slightly smaller Autobot Metrotitan- who I headcanon as mass-produced clones of the original Metroplex, not quite as large, powerful or advanced but still formidable opponents.

Peaugh review. The size is still an issue but that design is orgasmically good. His city mode and landship mode don't feel like afterthoughts for one thing!
