Masterpiece Grimlock (Takara MP08) Different Releases

Is there a way to tell the difference between the first edition and second edition Masterpiece Grimlock without opening the box? Do they have different manufacturer dates or something?

i believe the second release was more comic accurate in that it had more of a metallic color to the mold. whereas the original was a slightly duller plastic
