megatron for the movie
If the rumors that have been floating around about megatron's earth transformation being a stealth bomber is true. I would pick him up in a heart beat. I wouldn't care what his face looks like. I have always wanted a stealth bomber transformer it is one of the coolest looking planes next to the a-10 warthog which they did in the cybertron line. But I wonder what other people think about megatron being a stealth bomber is this idea a good thing or bad thing.

Yes his name Dreadwing, and came with a detachable partner named Smokescreen, during G2. The same figure was going to be recolored and released as Megatron and Starscream, but was canceled along with the line. Later, the figure was recolored once more and reintroduced during Beast Wars II as BB and his partner was Starscream. The figure was recolored yet again during RID and reintroduced as Dreadwing again with his partner renamed as Smokejumper.

Yes, G2 Dreadwing was quite interesting, although he suffered from the odd devotion to neon and strange decals that were highly prevalent in G2.

So what Cyb Soundwave is not a stealth bomber?
but i have to agree with previous posts, Megs earth mode should have been Brawl's mould in leader size.

Stealth fighter. The F117 I believe is called a stealth fighter even though it's more of a bomber than a fighter (it's the difference between "F" designation and "B" designation. F117 Nighthawk vs the B2 Spirit.) I don't know who's responsible for the gaff. The F117 should have been a B117. Maybe a military type (or someone else) has more info on the reasons.
At any rate, I hope you realize that I am completely teasing you.

Looking at Brawl, I think he would have been perfect, complete with appropriate looking arm cannon, IMO.

As I understand it, in modern times, the "B" designation is generally reserved for strategic bombers. The "F" designation describes both fighters and fighter-bombers. Strategic Bombers of course can do things like large-scale carpet bombing, while fighter-bombers nail specific ground targets and can engage enemy fighters.
The F-117 is used for precision bombing and is hypothetically capable of dealing with enemy aircraft, therefore it is a fighter-bomber, and gets the "F" designation.
The line between fighter and fighter-bomber is blurry anymore. We don't fight many enemies with aircraft, so it's no longer practical to design fighters purely to dogfight with enemy fighters.
That's my impression anyway.
Edit: We've had at least three other stealth fighters as well - one of the three Cyberjet molds was an F-117, and was used for G2 Skyjack and Air Raid, and a Universe character.

You mean this guy:
Skyjack
and yes he was used for Air Raid, and Universe Air Raid.
Yes, yes, the Arm cannon, think of him larger, and in a gray and silver color scheme, he totally evokes Megatron.

The only stealth planes I remember are from gijoe like the night raven. I just wonder what kind of plane it was because this is plane I hope they use for megatron in the movie.http://www.cobraislandtoys.com/gi/1986/stratoviper.html

The Cobra Nightraven was a modified SR-71 Blackbird.

Incidently, it's also the same kind of jet that the X-Men used during the eighties.
A few other Blackbird transformers were Overlord, Terradive (minicon), Nightcruz, and Sky Quake/King Atlas/Starscream(MW). I'm sure there may have been one or two more.

I don't see much similarity between Sky Quake/King Atlas/Starscream(MW) and the SR-71.
I think the Valkyrie and Lancer are closer fits, though still far off.

And SR-71's are definetly not stealth, they just outrun their attackers.
I definetly wouldn't mind Megs being a B-2. Of all the planes in the world, that one fits him the best. It can carry tons of firepower and it's very omnious.
I've even seen one fly over once, super cool.

I think, unless my memory fails me, that the Sr-71 Blackbird did have a stealth aspect to it. I thought its design was partially to reduce its radar footprint.
Though, yes, it's greatest attributes were speed and altitude.

Yeah the SR-71 is generally considered 1st generation stealth tech. Some radar deflecting design and radar absorbing paint. F-117 being an example of 2nd gen and F-22 being 3rd.
Even the B-1 was given a smaller radar profile in its B-1B incarnation.
I gotta say, I've seen a lot of aircraft, but nothing beats the seeing the B-1B in flight, completely awe inspiring.
On topic though, megs a bomber, call me old fashioned but the only thing I ask for is a big arm cannon. He can be a baby stroller for all I care, just as long as he's packin heat on his arm.

Back to the original topic:
I think Megatron and 'stealth' don't go together, not in this universe. As for a B-2, it's such a wide, flat wafer of a plane. Bearing in mind the designs for Starscream so far and how Leader Megatrons have been seriously disappointing, do you really think they can give us a good B-2 Megatron? I think trends suggest otherwise.

A stealth plane doesn't suit Megatron. He needs an alt mode that is mean and in your face. Personally, I think a tank or some kind of heavily armored vehicle suits his personality.
That being said, I highly doubt the movie people will break tradition with Megs alt mode. In the movies he refused to take an earth-mode. If they change his alt mode for the 3rd movie, it will be some kind of variation on his Cybertron military theme.

Wow, three year thread necromancy by a first time poster...
And there's no need for a new alt mode for Megatron - he only needs repairs, not a full rebuild. And this also means that next movie's Leader Megatron can have a refined build the way ROTF Ldr Prime is refined over TFTM Ldr Prime.

The reason for the F designation on the F-117 was purely marketing. The military new they would draw more candidates to an F plane than a B. Simple as that.
