As we all know in the US continuity, G1 Megatron was severely injured at the hands of Prime and then reformatted into Galvatron.
But what happened to him in the Japanese continity? was he killed in scramble city and rebuilt into galvatron?

If that's the case, did they retcon the Megatron / Galvatron relationship after they finally got the movie? Or, by that point, since Galvatron was long gone, did they just leave it?
Also, if they were treated as separate characters prior to the movie's release in Japan, did they have any kind of backstory explaining how and why Megatron's position was usurped by Galvatron?
