Aaaah yes.. Ben...
The theme for the movie Ben (about killer rats for those that are too young).
I love the song Somebody's Watching Me.. Jackson's background vocals is what made that song popular..

Despite the scandals and surgeries, I grew up on Michael Jackson's music and videos and always wanted to see him succeed. Here's hoping his music and icon status outlives the tabloid stories.

I wouldn't call that selfish at all, not in the least. You are a fan of MJ and wished to see him. It's no different from a fan wanting to see any other artist.
I am shocked by this but I am finding it hard to be overly sad about his passing. I guess the last decade or so has tainted that part of me that grew up listening to him in the 70's and 80's.

I remember watching the video of Thriller on MTV one night when I was really young and it scared the **** out of me at the time. But I love that song and the video. I mean Vincent Price was in it too for god's sake! It was just so well done. And I consider it one of my favorite zombie movies of all time.

So true..
I really am serious. I honestly believe this news really truly woke me up to a realization that I really have grown older. .. Like I just didn’t quite notice it before or s'thing. It’s actually difficult to put into words. Michael Jackson IS the 80's to most people.
When my daughter told me I’m not even sure I heard what she said. Then I went numb. Then I started to cry.

I had my first sip of coffee then..... when I finally understood that the radio just announced the death of my favourite pop singer.
My mum cried as I told her,
My dad was sad,
Now there will be nothing but silence from the world of pop.

He was one of the most famous people in the world, if not THE most famous person. Whether I talked to my grandmother of 92, or a 16 year old from Estonia, they all knew Michael Jackson and his music.
Future generations will hear about the King of Pop and wonder what the fuss was all about. And then they'll wonder why there wasn't even more.
In the words of his own song "Gone too soon"
Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night
Like A Sunset
Dying With The Rising Of The Moon
Gone Too Soon
RIP Michael Jackson

A few hours later (when the radio station finally pulled it's finger out and updated their hourly news) i'm sitting at work and it was announced he'd died.
I was shocked, absoloutely shocked. And i'm amazed I was able to collect myself when the department manager came in and started making piss poor jokes about MJ.
I know a lot has been said about his personal life, from the alleged indecent dealings to his down right weirdness, but it's his music and the impact he had on the industry that i'll remember.
And i'm glad i'm not alone on this site in feeling that way. I expected a thread full of heartless bad taste MJ jokes, thanks for proving me wrong guys.

I mean, you always hear about stars going through this sort of thing and then the next day you find that they are still alive, and being watched by their doctors.
But it was odd hearing that he had died, because 'Michael Jackson' and 'died' just didn't seem to go together. He seemed like he was one of those big people, that death would never touch, because hey, he was Michael Freakin' Jackson.
R.I.P, Jackson.

For me that 'holy crap you're getting old' moment was when Jim Henson died. Just about as suddenly, actually.
I do worry about the kids. If Joe Jackson takes them, it could be bad. Seem to recally that JJ was pretty darned abusive to his own kids, and him getting custody of a what is real a reality tragedy show waiting to happen just doesn't seem like a great idea. The Octomom has a show, after all, and then there's the train-wreck-o-tainment of John & Kate plus Hate.

If Joe Jackson gets them, it may end up being a repeat performance of Michael and the torment that he went through..
