I need to get this off my chest, it has been quite the day.

My birthday is today (Valentine's day). My husband decided we'd go see a movie of my choice this morning. I settled on the new Jeff Bridges movie, Crazy Heart. I love anything he plays in. We had a great time and we're leaving the movie to drive home. We start driving down the road and a woman in a Honda Civic ran a stopsign (which is a very notorious spot for this) with no room to spare. My husband stands on the brakes as the woman driving the other car just stops right in the middle of the road. Then our Jeep collided with hers. The airbags deployed. I saw it coming so I closed my eyes. I was an EMT for 5 years before I started working in the automotive world, so I popped into my EMT routine right away. I looked my husband over and he was fine, thank our good Lord. I was okay asides from feeling like I got punched in the nose. I ran down to where the other car was and checked on the driver that ran the stopsign. She was shaken but not badly injured. We were uninjured so I started first aid until a bystander came by and was able to take over keeping her head still so I could go be with my husband.

I'm a car mechanic now, and just one look at my Jeep was all I needed to say totaled. The frame is pushed back into the radiator on the passenger side, and over I would say at least 4 inches to the driver side. We only bought it a few months ago, and I fixed it up during my last month in college in our shop there. We were going to do a suspension lift on it, as well as some other suspension work to build it into an off road rig. We named the Jeep "Trailbraker" (if it was a Wrangler we would have called it Hound).

Definitely put the rain on my birthday but the best gift of all is that my husband was okay. I am also thankful that I was unscathed as well. I'm mad at the lady for running the stopsign and ultimately wrecking up the truck, but I am very glad that I was able to get her some kind of field care until the ambulance got there. She will be okay too.

Wow. That definitely did not make for a good day, especially for a birthday. Sorry to hear that. I've been in a couple of wrecks, but so far I've been alright. Like you said, at least neither you or your husband were hurt.

Thanks Rodimus, I am glad that you've been alright in any wrecks you've been in!

I guess you always think you're uninjured after an accident, but by night time the muscles in my neck and upper back weren't going to have anymore. My husband's knee got the worst of it from the dash. He might have a fracture in it or some torn cartilage. He has to have xrays, MRI, etc. now. I got to my chiropractor today and I feel considerably better. Unfortunately we've had to seek out an attorney for advice (already) due to the other driver lying to the insurance companies trying to get out of it. Luckily we have the police report which was faxed to both insurance companies today. That'll set her insurance straight.

As for hurt in wrecks, the only things that ever happened to me were my thumbs got banged up when the air bag deployed in one wreck, and my chest hurt for a few days due to the seatbelt in another one. So though I've been in 5-6 wrecks, a couple of them my fault, I've been lucky so far.

Ouch Seatbelts and airbags hurt but they certainly do save lives!


The hitch cover is total win!! I got it for my better half for Christmas this past year. It was machined right here in the US too - gotta support our machinists!
