Minicons vs. Micromasters vs. WST

All 3 of these lines are in the same basic scale and are fairly displayable next to each other. Which is your favorite, do you like them all or don't you have any of them?

Here's my personal take on each.

Micromasters - They don't get a lot of love from some G1 purists simply because they were basically aimed at kids who collected Micromachines but I think some of them are really cool. A lot of them actually have as good or better articulation than the G1 minibots and a few easily pass for smaller versions of G1 fiures, especially in vehicle mode.

World's Smallest Transformers (WST) - Released exclusively in Japan, a lot of US collectors don't realize how cool they really are. Biggest drawback is that there are a lot of small detachable parts to lose but the articulation is absolutely amazing.

Minicons - You either like them or you hate them. I'm not big on collecting them on their own, although there are some minicons that really add to the figures they came packaged with.

I've had some of all 3 lines but I generally collect on a figure by figure basis and am by no means a completist on these.

I really like all three. I think mainly because they allow you to help show the immenseness of the Transformers world by being small enough to interact with the city bots and basebots that have been released.

Micromasters- Not perfect, but I really like them. With all the bases, battle vehicles, and such they came with, they are easily my favorite of the small ones. They populate the world with the buildings/bases that I like to use in displays.

WST- They are G1 miniatures. For there size they are fairly soid as far as feel and transformation. Yes, on some parts falling off is common, but they can reattach.

Minicons- Updates of the micromasters with more articulation, more variance in alt modes, and different transformationo styles, they are cool in their own right. If you forget that the cartoon just mainly used them to replace Pokemon, you should enjoy collection them if you enjoy collecting the others.

Plus, there are enough exclusives and repaints to track down from this category that you won't be bored with quickly owning the entire set.

I love all three, but I'd consider Legends class figures to be the best (even though you didn't list them). My favorite of your list though would have to be WST. Just because they are tiny G1 figures. Nostalgia overload!

mini-cons are far superior simply because of the minicon port.

all the bit-size Transformers including weapons should have a minicon minicon compatible port as much as possible.

I don't think the port makes them superior... Too many minicons have them located in really weird places. I think minicons are better as individual robots, not as power boosters, unless they have a weapon mode like the emergency team.

Personally i'm a big fan of Micromasters.

Why?

Because of things like combiners and more importantly, bases.

WST? meh, they're a nice gimmick and all, but at the end of the day they're just shrunk down versions of bigger bots. Something Micromasters and Mini-Cons have over them, unique characters (to a point)

Mini-Cons however ... some are hit and miss. There was so much potential with them, like bases, but instead the bases turned out to be larger sized bots. Basically making mini-cons dependant on a larger bot.

Plus some of the molds were bloody awful. Sure, Micromasters may not have had the articulation of Mini-cons, but at they least they looked half decent in both modes and didn't have body parts hanging off their arms.

after reading ya'alls posts I still think minicons are the shiznit.

they definitely have the MOST potential. B-)

but they are also huge on the hit or miss...

mini-con ports is so simple, better to have than not to have. ;;)

Mr. Burn speaks the truth for me. I too am a fan of micromasters first, and due to the bases, and ability to be separated from a larger bot and still be relevant.

I'm actually torn.

Micromasters? I really DON'T like the bots themselves, but I DO like their bases, and their combiners (and the 'unused parts' actually DO something, unlike the Scramble City combiners!)

WST's? I own two - Red Alert and Thrust. To me, their best use is displaying as if they were their full sized equivalents next to Uber-bots like Metroplex or Fort Max. Still, they are bite-sized pieces of nostalgia...

Minicons? Some are flat out awesome, with excellent articulation and a semi-third mode, whether it's a weapon or what have you. Others are completely and utterly craptastic, like many of the ones that came with Cybertron Giant Planet figures or whassisname - the tiger minicon from Classics 1.0 >.<

For me, they're all best used as "scenery". So I think I'll pass on most of them.

Not a big fan of WST. I have 2...I think. Opened them up, shiney, then put them back in their boxes. That was aboot it.

Micro's I like. Their bot modes leave something to be desired at times, but I think they are a important to the history of mini-cons. I have the Destron Sixwing and love that guys's paint job and gestalt mode so much. He's one of the best deals I got for a TF. Got him for $20 bucks on South St in Philly.

Mini-cons have been growing on me each year. Buut my problem is that I'm finding the older molds and certain re-colors hard to find. Definitely getting into the mini-con collecting late. I prefer any mini-con groups that can merge like Star Saber, Energon Saber, Requiem Blaster's, Sky Boom Shields. I also looove mini-cons that offer up a 3rd weapon mode like a target master. I juuust purchased the Cybertron S.W.A.T. team yesterday and it took me forever to complete. Been spending the past 3-4 months looking for Scythe and I FINALLY found him. Mini-con collecting this late in the game is pretty frustrating. Definitely teaches you patience.

This one's easy. WST all the way. I was lucky that I was able to get most of mine at the comic shop without having to bother with importing. I never regretted them for a second. They are great for making big bots seem huge.

I had 4 micromasters as a kid. One of them rolled under a vending machine on the Stena Hibernia and was never seen again. Somehow I've never had any nostalgia for them.

Minicons... I only have a couple. They're like micromasters, only they feel cheaper. They do nothing for me, and I think it's a stupid gimmick.

Micromasters all the way. They had a large variety and had very good molds (the face of each one is detailed enough to rival some of the later years bigger bots). The big deal -as said- are the bases. Last year I bought Countdown, it is one of the most awesome bases ever made.

Mini-cons: I personally don't like them. Have a few, but some of them have terrible molds (terrible robot mode details) and they overall sacrifice the mold for gimmicks - like most of the armada toys. The only one I like is the Cybertron submarine, it has awesome paint combination.

WST: Saw a lot of them, don't have any; I like their bigger counterparts better. Still, I understand why they can be fun to people.
