MISB Leader batteries

Postby Bonecrusher27 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:32 pm

I'm wondering if any one here has kept the original TF movie toy leaders MISB, and if so, what the state of the batteries are like now. I'm concerned about leaking, specifically. My OP has long ceased to be able to speak, so I presume the juice is gone out of that, and with it, any value for a MISB resale. So I'm gonna open him up.

But it does beg the question, what fate befalls my MISB ROTF and eventually, my MISB DOTM leaders. Or are these figures with electronics probably better off as take-out-of-box plays. Is it possible to keep these guys MISB while protecting from damage?

Thanks!

Given enough time the batteries will start to corrode and potentially damage the figures. I'm a set the prisoners free sort of guy, so I bust everything out of the package ASAP. The first thing I do if a figure has batteries is remove them, even if they are only button cells. I forgot to remove the batteries from my CarRobots Fire Convoy and ended up with a horrible mess in his battery chamber. Luckily I was able to get him cleaned up and the electronics still work. Leaving them is really a ticking time bomb that will go off at some point.

I agree wholeheartedly with Duque. Having been a victim of corrosion myself also.

I so need to get my lazy butt up and do this before it's too late and I regret it. I have been meaning to take the batteries out of my Transformers but I just haven't got around to doing it. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Thankfully, Metroplex didn't come preloaded. I am currently in the process of removing batteries from Figures.
So Far I have removed batteries from Energon Scorponok and Armada Jetfire, on the list to do tomm.
All Movie Leader Figures (ARGH I have to open some), and Unicron. Any other well known figures come with prefab electronics?

The list will be larger than you think. The ones in bold are my contributions, but I will leave out their repaints and retools. As a rule of thumb, the button cell types are always included and installed, while either AA or AAA have only been installed since the Movie line. Another rule is that Cybertron repaints for the Universe line, as well as most Superlink (Japanese Energon) toys have had their electronics gutted.

What about Masterpiece Prime? I'm not even sure where the battery is located, but considering how seldom I actually light up the Matrix, maybe I should pull that battery out...

i haven't got him on hand currently, but my guess is it's a button cell either in his backpack or in the grey block that holds the matrix

Yeah, it's in the grey matrix block. I just removed mine. You just have to pop it out and then unscrew the backing. I guess my Matrix won't light up anymore, but at least it won't corrode either. Funny, I just watched "The Return of Optimus Prime Part 2", when the knowledge and light of the matrix were used up... :-B

he's a repaint of BW optimal optimus i'm guessing?
you're lucky.
the only transformers i have here is a box of BW toys including optimal optimus
on the rear part of his cannon assembly is a block with the word 'open' on it, right behind the hole where his head goes.
i think if you removed that small screw and slide the block rearwards, you'll find the batteries.
the block is attached to the upper cover plate on top of the rear cannon part.
judging by the size, it's 2 AAA's.

edit:
suspicions confirmed. i just removed the batteries from mine. it's 2 AA's

He's talking about RiD Air Atttack Optimus Primal:

His battery cover is on the robot mode's back; you have to deploy the rocket pack to reach it.

Anyone on hints for Brawl's batteries? The screws are super small, it feels like the screws are stripped.
