Death Note isn't an anime you can judge from the get-go. The entire situation changes quickly in a couple of episodes, and can change the entire face of the show. Starts out as horror, then it's detective, then it's romance/horror, then it's mafia, then it's espionage. Starts with J-punk rock, ends with scream-o metal. By the end of the series, giving it a specific genre takes quite a bit of thought.
I must admit I am a little surprised Death Note and Full Metal Alchemist both have been mentioned, both are popular manga/anime, but not in the same league as series like Naruot, DBZ and Bleach. Different target audiences and such too.
At least Rurouni Kenshin hasn't been mentioned.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I personaly cannot stand Naruto or Full Metal Alchemist. I got a few episodes into them and just gave up. Same thing with Bleach, They just couldn't hold my attention.
However I highly recomend if you have the time to watch them,
Outlaw Star - Space ship battles and pirates, you just can't go wrong.
Metalocalypse -I know that it isn't anime, but it's animeted and funny as hell

"I will not kill anymore" well can we see the show where you were? cause you talking to some kids on a front porch realy sucks!

Episode 28. The episode when Saito Hajime shows up. That's when it REALLY begins. Loads of fighting after that. (As opposed to random, minor conflicts with minimal fighting)
And yeah, the opening song blows.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, Samurai X tells the story of when he kills:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_X:_Trust_%26_Betrayal It's been awhile since I saw it(my friend lets me borrow it), but it was all right. I haven't seen any actual Rurouni Kenshin though.

Yup, there are 3 "Samurai X" OVA's that tell the story of the past of Kenshin.
I also keep forgetting that this is the anime thread, just about everything is better in Manga form (except for maybe Naruto, the fights are so badly drawn I have no idea whats going on in the manga).
