Freeze may be smarter, but he only has an ice gun. Iceman could just make an iceburg around freeze and trap hium since he has real control of cold.

Freeze has to maintain his body temperature constantly or he dies.
Iceman doesn't.

umm no. Mr. Freeze CANNOT die.
He may not die from conventional means but decapitation and deep freezing will effectively neutralize his physiology.
More iconic rendetions of him do need the cold temperatures to survive though.

He actually extracts the energy out of given areas in order to freeze them. I'd wonder why he can't pile it all in a given area.

Yeah, that's what I mean. He doesn't add cold, he absorbs heat energy seemingly indefinetly. That's almost being the opposite of entropy.
I too question where it all goes...

Mr. Freeze's gun is also impossible for the same reason.
Two guys, maybe a little drunk, punching each other over 'who is cooler?' is more believable!
'I'm the Iceman, fool!'
'But I'm Mr. Freeze, b1tch!'
