My First BinalTech Acquisition

I got a pretty nifty birthday present of BTA Alert and Kiss Players Rodimus for my 26th last Saturday.

First off, Rodimus is just one of the coolest Alt/BTs done to date.

I say this with all due sincerity, "Yey Rodimus!"

I've collected every Alt to date. I never bothered with BinalTech because I didn't think that I got enough of an increase in product for the money spent. I am also not the biggest fan of die-cast in general.

I had always, admittedly, justified my decision to go with Alternators by the idea that the die-cast was subject to paint marrings and that with so many movable parts, the weight would be a hinderance.

Now, I don't know if it is just this particular Binaltech I have, whether it is the BTA class of Binaltechs, or if it is just indicative of the line as a whole, but I found that all my concerns were actually valid.

Compared with Alternators, there were more minor-imperfections, more problems with loose joints due to the weight, and actually more difficulty transforming (Largely due to fears of scuffing the doors and places where joints touch).

I know that there is a valid argument for these guys and that there is a value placed on the extra work and material in them. I'm certainly not hating on BinalTech here either, but instead sharing my experience with 'how the otherside lives'.

Who else has a split collection, and what are your thoughts on the differences?

I have a split collection and yes the BTs arnt perfect. It annoys me more when I get an imperfect BT than an Alt.

With regards to treating the BTs with kid gloves, yes agreed but then most people see them as collectibles whereas the Alts are more toys. My BTs are handled less than the Alts.

You say that your only die cast BT is the BTA and I think that there were problems with the BTAs in general, maybe cos the molds had been used so many times although I dont see how that could be an issue as its the same mold the parts are cast from. I have issues with parts alligning in alt mode on all my BTAs but I can live with them.

Overall I would go with the BT version every time. Even the Kiss painted plastic approach looks better than the Alts (mmm shiny).

Kiss Hot Rodimus is awesome. I am temped to get those very smart Reprolabels for him and the blue set for Alt Mirage.

BTA Alert is probably my fave of the Imprezas, also my only die cast one.

I have the blue set. They are definitely fun, but I didn't want to mess up my KISS RODIMUS with the yellow ones. They do make for a lot of detail, almost making it too busy!

I have all items released in both groups, and I truly like my BTs much more. Yes, they scratch, chip, etc., but the fact that I need to be more careful with them, makes them more special and valuable to me. I love the heavy feel, and the paint looks much better than plastic.

I have all the alts MISB, and many open. I like them, but not as much as their BT versions. They feel cheap in comparison, almost like a KO to a vintage item, but obviously they are not that bad.

Congrats on getting your first BTs. I really like BTA Broadblast, and Smokescreen with rocket launcher(s). I also think Dead End's BT version looks sweet in shiny black paint!

I have one BTA (Broadblast) and one BT (Corvette Ravage). Ravage has suffered pretty horrible paint chipping thanks to being my second ever alt/bt, and having had to put up with one too many trips between uni n home. Broadblast on the other hand has (to my knoladge) suffered no paint ware (the mold is frankly a much safer desing for that anyway) but he has some loose joints (in the legs damnit) and alingment issues.

Mind some of the alts aint perfect for alingment either, but not as bad (well not as obvious) as Breadblast.

I started off with BTs but couldn't take the imprefections, so I went with Alts. The only BTs I have now are the recolors that weren't released in the US.

That statement expresses how I feel about it pretty well actually. While in some instances the metal and paint may look better, if any of my figures were to suffer a scratch or chip or otherwise have a noticable imperfection, if would be the same as ruining the figure for me.

If a BT suffers some scratching then I can say that T-Cut works a treat. I have also used car wax on mine to give a nice healthy shine.

Believe it or not, car wax works on Alts too. Plastic has similar charactieristics to a cars clear coat.

If you're out to buy BTs only for major differences from their Alt counters, I would recommend only Smokescreen. His paint scheme is wonderful.

Otherwise, I only collect the Binaltechs because I was able to get 80% of the collection MISB for around 20 bucks a piece outta ebay. After that, I just completed the set. Most are still sitting in their boxes MISB.

My only complaint with the Alts is that it doesn't even look like they try to match some of the plastic colors to the paints. The last Prime I picked up was three shades of red.

Very good to know. I have been lucky enough not to get any scratches on my Alts yet, but if it happens, I will have to try this. Hopefully, I won't need to worry about it though.

Yeah but what's even funnier is that three of those replies were from Mods before you reported the spambot. :P

I always feel like a rock star. Even when I mess things up. I wasn't paying close attention, and never even looked at the dates. Busy working. Sorry about that.
